I guess it's a good idea to let ATPB take a break for a few days. The auburn fans have all been to their pep rallies and visited their friends and are going to be fired up, so let them wareagle and whoop it up for a bit.
I came here for the ATPB thread, and after living thru SMU as a student, I see the same thing happening now. But if or until it does begin to come out, let's call a truce and let the Auburn have their chance at the big win.
Now that I've found the site, it does seem to be a great place to find info and talk about the SEC. I also like partying with LSU fans when they come to Tuscaloosa.
I do hope the mods will give the thread another chance for the mainstream in a few days.
There's a lot of hard facts out there. If this does begin to break as many expect it will be the greatest national sports scandal since Arnold Rothstein bought the White Sox. This site was on the leading edge with ATPB and was nationally important.

Hows that having my head in the sand? Maybe im the only one who would take my fanhood out of my son's decision?
You aren't in the majority... that is for sure.
And speaking of Lorio....
Trovon Reed committed to Auburn on his mother's birthday. That was a very special day for him and not something he would take lightly. He wouldn't announce to a school on that day if he didn't think 100% he was going there.
Now, read what that "former coach" that doesn't try to steer kids to LSU had to say 2 days before NSD.
quote:
Unlike many of his peers, Reed has requested no signing ceremony and is expected to sign privately at the Lafourche Parish school on Wednesday morning, Lorio said. "I kind of thought it was over a few days ago,'' Lorio said. "But there are still some discussions going on. He hasn't said anything publicly, but he's thinking. Auburn did a good job of getting close to him when his mom passed away last May. He's still committed to Auburn to my knowledge, but there are still some discussions about LSU going on. That's a fact. We'll know (Wednesday).''
Yea, coach, you have no agenda...
quote:
"It's no secret that a lot of people here in Thibodaux, including myself, and around Louisiana want to see Trovon at LSU because they can watch him play," said Lorio.
Doesn't sound like Trovon was ever questioning his commitment to Auburn to me...
quote:
On an emotional day, wide receiver Trovon Reed put on an orange Auburn cap and a white Auburn jersey and declared Friday he will play football for the Tigers. It was his late mother's birthday, and Reed knew she would be proud. Roszaina Johnson died March 6 from stomach cancer. There was no big show, no switching of hats. After almost breaking down at the podium as he recalled his mother, he reached beneath the podium and put on his Auburn cap.
"I'm going to the University of Auburn," he said, making the same harmless mistake on the school name that running back Michael Dyer made a week ago. And that was that. The secret was already out. If there was any doubt, it went away when numerous family members arrived at the Thibodaux High School gymnasium wearing Auburn shirts and caps. The pressure was heavy for Reed, the state of Louisiana's top prospect, to choose LSU. Even Thibodaux coach Dennis Lorio left no doubt that's what he wanted. But it wasn't what Reed wanted. "It's hard, but you have to do what you want to do," Reed said. "People that are mad at me are just diehard LSU fans. What about the people that come from out of town to come to LSU? That's how I feel about the whole thing." Reed said he felt something special about Auburn from the first time he visited last spring. LSU turned his head. He gave serious consideration to Oregon after an official visit. But, in the end, he did what he'd planned to do for months. "My heart was at Auburn," Reed said. Reed said making his announcement on his mother's birthday was at once difficult and wonderful. "It was too special. I knew it was going to be a good day. I went to bed about 8, woke up at 12 and said a big prayer for my mom on her birthday. I really couldn't go back to sleep, like she was holding me up. I was up all night and I'm still not tired."
"I don't have anymore stress on my back," Reed said.

disclaimer.. this is all from an article/blog.. I did not look up or link the fb.. lol
In fact, it seems objectively that despite the assertions that he made to the contrary to Thayer Evans in that interview, Nelson doesn't actually hold much for the Bayou Bengals. If you didn't accept his word at face value, which you would never fathom doing since he is clearly such a character individual with exemplary integrity, you might actually swear he actually isn't particularly fond of dear ol' LSU. Note the following two exchanges:
LINK
And believe it or not, it seems that Nelson at least tries to do what he can to urge other recruits to sign with Auburn, too. Note, for example, the following message he sent to 2011 recruit Mike Blakely on October 21st, asking for his telephone number via private message and wondering why he is waiting to join "the family":
As a final kicker, his "non-profit mentoring organization" is on Facebook as well. For the most part, there is really nothing of note to it, other than the fact that it is listed as being founded the day before the kick-off of the 2010 football season and that their only "event" was a poetry reading last month -- what in the hell kind of poetry you find down in Thibodaux, I do not want to know -- that, with food included, cost a whopping $15 per person, $25 for couples. But browse the following references that he made to the organization, and see if a certain repeated phrase rings a bell:
Anyone want to guess where Robinson was the weekend before June 2nd? On an unofficial visit to Auburn.

Nelson says he has been Reed’s guardian since Reed’s mother died nearly two years ago and insists he is not involved in Robinson’s recruitment

Back in the early 90's another MLB scout and I were discussing this situation.
What joggled my memory was that a lengthy article appeared in Sports Illustrated about
peewee football pimping, alot of these kids lived on the west of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
kids got sucked into a "pimping academy" directors took pin money from the bunch in Lee County.
In long run most kids never got proper academic background to get into college.
In our business our best prospects come through the front door- recognized programs/ coaches/scouts/crosscheckers.
This Thibidaux Monster a creation of the same "pimping/whoring flimflam. Street hustle game.
don't need to read the whole book to know how it will turn out.
this is just trading in bartered goods that when defective are not worth the effort to go back and fix.

Almost reminds me of the Mike Oher situation, only without the Christianity and good-heartedness.

It's ok, don't worry, auburn has 14 "chaplains" on staff to care for the "spiritual needs" of all their players.

I was referring to the mom. Sandra Bullocks' character.
I know the movie obviously was made to portray them in a good light, even though they did adopt this kid with obvious athletic potential in his senior year, told him to start playing football and then sent him to Ole Miss.
It seems like, from the movie anyways, that they really did adopt him out of the goodness of their hearts and got him started playing football because they saw an opportunity for him.
Now this guy....seems like he was just preying on Trovon Reed, becoming the "mentor" to a guy who just lost his mother, and then steered him to Auburn, miles away from the rest of his family and support group. Now Trovon got injured and didn't play this year. Where was his support? If he was in Louisiana, family would have been an hour away to help him through it all.
Now this guy has taken Robinson under his wing, and apparently took Robinson to Auburn without even asking his mother.
Shady shite.
This "mentor" and "handler" shite has got to stop.
Posted on 1/9/11 at 3:15 pm to CaseyMc2
That's an interesting theory considering you could also note that all 3 of the big time state of Arkansas recruits that have gone to Auburn in the last year all had the exact same handler in Walt Williams. Trooper must be worth every penny Chiz pays him.
