And it's not like he didn't break a few other tackles earlier in the game when he was apparently stopped. With a strong back like that you give him the benefit of the doubt when he is not down.

The runner was clearly under the control of the tacklers and was PUSHED BACK into the endzone where he broke free (and we don't know if that was when the whistle was blown). If he had been breaking loose from the tackle in the field of play, and run into the endzone under his own power, forfeiting his forward progress, THEN it would have been a legitimate safety.

I was wrong when I said "tacklers." It was only one tackler, and the runner was clearly under the control of the one tackler who pushed him back into the endzone.

Same play happened in the Arkansas-LSU game, play called against Arkansas and cost Hogs a first down.
