I kind of agree with you. Been to Ole Miss numerous times, was pretty disappointed the first time I went. I bought into all the BS you hear about the coeds and The Grove and the majesty, etc. etc.
Decent, albeit tremendously unspectacular campus, top tier SEC trim but not wholly different than Bama, UGA, etc. etc., and a different tailgate scene, but average food, no cooking, and cramped space IMO.
It doesn't suck.
But I think a lot of it is over-hyped because the football has been pretty bad for 40 + years.

Ole Miss campus, girls, and tailgating are nice but it's no where even close to where they think it is

Agree. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday afternoon by any stretch. But the mysticism of "The Grove" has been shattered for me.
Kind of like what I imagined football to be in 1955.

Ole Miss is overrated in just about everything. The girls, the tailgating, and their campus. Don't get me wrong, it's nice, but not as great as they seem to think.

I probably disliked Oxford so much because I actually bought into all the hype before I went. If I didn't have any expectations, I might not have viewed it so harshly.
The Grove seriously is stupid.

No, LSU fans are just whiny because they know that what they've got is great and it just doesn't get the recognition Ole Miss gets. LSU has great co-eds, tailgating, and campus atmosphere and so does Ole Miss. Y'all just don't like that our shite gets more recognition nationally and get all bitchy and whiny about it.
Nobody pulls the "OMG teh Grove is ovarrated!1" line more than LSU fans.
Also, the Grove is very DIFFERENT from what everybody else does, which either confuses or frustrates the simpletons in your fanbase to go "WELL THIS SUCKS!!11" because you can't comprehend that people really fricking enjoy doing shite in a more unique manner or, at least, a manner different to you and your peers.

not really. "the grove is the best" every time an ole miss fan opens his mouth is more like it.

I've been to 4 SEC campuses. I'm not sure how i'd rank them, but I actually thought Tennessee's campus was really nice with the river and all.
I think the thing with State's campus is there is nothing that stands out. George Perry is nice coming in a guess with the hills and Chadwick to each side. I appreciate what they are trying to do with the Zacharias Village area as well and the Hunter Henry building is interesting if nothing else, but the south side halls aren't that great looking, the ampitheatre leaves something to be desired and parking/street set up is an abortion.

How's that any different than LSU fans spewing back "OMG IT SO ISNT!!!" every time they see it?
Like some Arkansas poster (yes, it was an Arkansas poster who actually said something that wasn't a retarded flame or a poorly spelled diatribe about the shape of Bobby Petrino's ballsack) said, people like what they like mostly because it's what they're familiar with. The same reasoning can explain why, no matter where a person moves to, they always tend to answer where they grew up as to where they're from (I, for example, grew up in Mississippi but have lived in DC for several years now. I still tell people I'm "from" Mississippi.)
So Ole Miss fans are naturally going to love the Grove and others are naturally gonna hate it. Don't think you've made some fricking grand discovery or announced some paradigm-shifting treatise when you say "ugh the Grove isn't all that great."
Open your eyes, be objective, and see things for what they're worth. I think the tailgating scene is great at LSU. The food is excellent and being blackout and covered in your own vomit isn't frowned upon. It's definitely not my cup of tea, because it's not something that I feel out of place as a part of (hence a lack of familiarity), but I can wholly see why people like and enjoy it and don't waste my time trying to "convince" them of something else.

I actually don't agree with this at all. It's the same lame cheesedickery seen at every other southern campus on a more congested scale. Swoop bang tards, sundresses, imitation sunglasses, flasks, heels, flip flops, and gameday ties. There's nothing terribly original there and the same thing goes on at every southern school from D-III on up. Ole Miss may have a higher per capita occurance of said douchebaggetry, but it's far from unique.
And yes, I've been part of said douchebaggetry since my days as an undergrad frat, so I can cast stones.
The thing that kills Ole Miss, to me, is that there's no cooking allowed. No, I don't cook every game, but part of the tailgating is the food. Boxed in fried chicken and finger food doesn't do it for me EVERY time. I like a little variety.
Bonus points to Ole Miss for the bar setups I've seen in the Grove though, that shite is kinda cool.

I've been to every SEC campus except Arkansas. They are all nice. If I had to choose my least favorites they would be South Carolina, Kentucky.

Vandy by a long shot.
Florida and Auburn also are in the discussion.

LOL...that's all I had to see. Pot meet kettle. Ole Miss fans have the worst case of "I'm better than you" than any fanbase in the nation (outside of texas). This is too funny.

In my opinion Arkansas' campus is beautiful. It sits up on a hill overlooking the ozarks, harwood trees covering everything. Architecture is consistent throughout and it ties into downtown. Cool place IMHO.
LSU is also beautiful. Each of the campuses I have been to offer something different and have thier own charm.

The campus of Ole Miss is very overrated. its mediocre at best, but Oxford and the Grove are far from overrated. I loved both of them.
I toured 8 of the SEC campuses when choosing a college and I liked LSU's the best.
UGA, LSU, and Bama have the nicest campuses IMO. Auburn's would be nice if they had more trees.
the worst are no doubt Tennessee and Kentucky. MSU's wasnt anything special, but it wasnt nearly as bad as everyone is making it out to be. I just went last year and it looked like they had done a lot of recent work to it.

There is cooking, just not in the Grove itself. Go along the outskirts or along university avenue and you'll see smokers and such set up. You're not allowed to have open flames over grassy areas in the grove. Dripping grease, charcoal ashes, etc KILL the grass and trees in the Grove, so they're naturally very cautious about that.
The cooking's there, it's just in very specific places and nowhere near the scale of what's done at LSU. (deep-fried alligator, anyone?)
