"(I could maybe) win the Heisman or go up in the (NFL) draft," Jones said of the incentives of a return. "Possibly win another national championship."

Lofty goals? Consider the voice of Alabama coach Nick Saban, which echoed Jones and offered even stronger incentives for a return to Tuscaloosa.

"I think he would be the No. 1 receiver in the country next year," Saban said. "He probably would be a guy, who would have a chance to make a lot of national honors in terms of whether it's winning an award like the Biletnikoff (Award) or maybe even being in the Heisman Trophy hunt."

On Rivals:

quote:

"I really don't know," Jones said. "I'm trying not to think about it, especially right here, right now. I'm focused on myself and my team and what we're doing here."

quote:

"Every player can improve," Saban said. "I think the history of most NFL positions, the failure rate of juniors is a lot higher than it is for seniors. It's just about knowledge, experience, maturity, adapting and adjusting to be more ready to make an impact."

He added: "There's no question the guy has really good toughness. He's very physical and you're at a position where you sometimes have to develop toughness, that's never been the case with him. It's just a part of his game, and I think that's a tremendous asset for him."

So are his attitude and selfless style of play. Consider Jones' response to being asked if one game stuck out at Alabama: "A lot of those games I have to thank my teammates. I mean I did better from one game to the next, but when I do well it's because of my teammates. It's the offensive line blocking well, the quarterback throwing, it's not just about what I did. I contribute to it a little bit, but they had the hard jobs.

"All I had to do was catch the ball."

He added that what he's most proud of are: "My teammates. It's been great for me that I have these guys, who look up to me as a leader. I feel like I have that role and I try and lead by example."

His workout performance will determine where he goes in the draft. He's a solid receiver who can be fragile at times, he's in the wrong offense to be the number 1 receiver in the country.

Truly an athlete-student. No mention of a degree also being a possible incentive?

NFL - Pros- $$$$$, no class, ok to take free fishing trips, etc.
Cons-

It shouldn't be a tough choice for him, IMO.

They don't give Heisman trophies to WRs that are the #1 run blocker in the country. He's not in an offense designed for the type of numbers needed by a WR to even be considered.

eta: Saban is blowing smoke up is his because he knows he needs him as a RUN BLOCKER.

The chances of him getting injured or his stock dropping are greater than the chances of him improving his stock much. I think the smart move for him is to go now.

We don't know yet what our offense will look like with AJ.

The main reason a person attends college is to pursue a career field where they can make as much money as possible. I would take the millions of dollars over a degree any day of the week especially in this job market.

What an idiot. He must seriously have the iq of a cat turd.

How many pure receivers win the heisman? And in Alabama's downfield passing jugernaut with a new qb and dinky's conservative nature?

Well, maybe he is just that dumb that he will listen to the bullshite dinky is feeding him.

You've got to be fricking kidding me. Even with a proven QB with good experience, he wasn't on anyone's radar for heisman this season.

Not to mention that going to the NFL doesn't prevent someone who wants a degree from getting it.

You still haven't realized how stupid you look when you say that.

Is it that hard to say Saban? I say Chizik, because that's his name. Maybe I'm wrong, but I know I'm not a 12 year-old.

All homerism aside there is no way I would stay if I were him. He has a ring and really has nothing else to prove.

I have no idea why any top receiver would ever want to sign up to be in McElwain's offense.

No, but I know what it will look like with Saban. He's been doing it for over a decade.

Neither do I, but I'm not complaining.
