Or was it all smoke and mirrors?

I bet they can get him, but he's not on their radar like Arkansas fans want to think.

From browsing a couple Gator message boards yesterday it seemed that the overwhelming response was no.

I assure you that Arkansas fans have no desire to hear his name came up in conversation.

It's Florida and their fans that have a hard on for him.

Petrino with Florida talent would be downright scary.

most that I know don't want him, at least not as a first or second choice. I do think he's a very good coach, just not a great fit for UF.

But ultimately it matters very little what the average internet Gator fan wants compared to Jeremy Foley and the money guys.

I'm thinking Petrino is where he wants to be, for now anyway. I don't think that money is the number one priority with him---not after taking a pay cut to come to Arkansas. I'm thinking he now has the autonomy he needs with a program... (which he deserves) ...at least it appears that way. I'm hoping Florida gets a really good coach, just not our coach.

No is the answer. That does not mean we wouldn't get over it if he did coach UF and won.

here we go. and cam didn't know about the money.

petrino is loyal to NO ONE. his history with Au/louisville, atlanta, now arkansas (why you think his name is out there? he's interested.)

I don't see him leaving....However...

After watching this guy coach and build the program at Arky, he would fricking kill it at UF.

I doubt he would bring Ole Willy and would probably be able to attract a top DC now that he's hit an elite program.

There would be multiple NC's in the future

before Meyer stepped down, it was rumored that Petrino asked for a bigger buyout than originally proposed, just to show his loyalty to the school and put "job hopper" rumors to rest.

and i can honestly say that i don't think Petrino's name is out there by his own choice.

It means just that. Not a great fit. Many of the fans don't want him or trust him, he's a bit prickly for the UF booster circuit, and he's not known as a great recruiter, which is important in Fla where recruiting the top talent (which is expected) is as competitive as it is. Meyer wasn't known to be too fond of the booster circuit either, but it was a different situation when he was coming in even assuming Petrino can at least turn on the charm when he wants to like Meyer could.

I'm sure we'd get over it if he came in and won a bunch but I don't think he's the top choice right now. Foley likes him as an offensive mind and nobody's disputing that he's a brilliant Xs and Os guy, but that's only one aspect of the job.
