He had a torn ligament or something in his throwing shoulder.
He should have spent this past season getting surgery and recovering.

He couldn't get enough reps in to beat out Nathan Stanley for the starting job because he had almost permanent soreness.
He could throw the ball 80 yards through the air, with the injury though.

Because he said he could play. Nutt wanted him to have the surgery. And instead of sending Cotton to the Manning Passing Academy he sent Stanley. Cotton then got all butt hurt and left

He had shoulder surgery in October. He should be ready to compete for the starting job during spring practice. He'll be competing against CJ Bennett (3 starts, 1189 yds, 9 TDs) and Myles Gibbon (8 career starts, 863 yds 8 TDs). I expect him to start at some point next year.
