Look at LSU and Alabama's season after Saban won NC there. Both 9-3 (pre-Bama bowl) with losses that are similar:
LSU 2004
Auburn 10-9
Georgia 45-16
Iowa 30-25
Alabama 2010
South Carolina 35-21
LSU 24-21
Auburn 28-27
Saban even is using the same words and tone he did at LSU in 2004 (immature, lack of attention to detail and the process)
He has said that 2004 was his most difficult year in coaching. What is he saying about Alabama's season 2010?
Any insights?

might as well fire his arse. We were just oozing with depth and experience this year, 9-3 is NOT acceptable

I was telling people before the season that he would do this. He loses 3-4 games the year after winning a NC. Its just his thing.

I think the comparison is really interesting actually.
I can understand his frustration honestly. We had a lot of guys last year that were
1) Unreal competitors
2) Mature beyond their age
3) Hungry, very hungry
A great coach once told me that sometimes you just have to try not to wreck the bus on the way to the game and I think last years team was like that once the season got rolling.
This years team is the exact opposite. You always battle complacency and not just with the players but with coaches too. I think it was a struggle all year to get people both young and old along with experienced and inexperienced to buy into "the process".
In my opinion, not only did we struggle with some of the young guys developing but there are other guys (Mark Ingram) that in my opinion regressed. And there are lots of reasons for that, one being a rather serious knee injury.
With that being said, I said at the first of the year if we only lost 2-3 games it would be a successful season. The season will always be looked as a failure in many peoples eyes because of the way they lost to LSU and especially Auburn.
Last Friday's Iron Bowl is our generations' Punt Bama Punt. That's going to leave a sour taste in a lot of peoples mouth.
Saban actually apologized Saturday night. I think he tends to coach better or at least motivate better when there is something to be pissed about. He's a lot like a fan in that case in that he can't just be happy when things are going so well.
I believe the Iron Bowl rejuvenates the program and we'll be back in Atlanta next year.

Without commenting on the retardation of this comment to Saban's credit we lost some of the greatest players to ever suit up for Bama last year.
Not too mention we battled some pretty serious injuries to key players.
If winning 10 games the year after winning a national championship is his thing, I'll take it.

If you are right, deaux, it will be another great coaching job on Saban's part. Often guys will come in and rejuvenate a program and get a handful of guys to become leaders. That seems to be more common than it happening after a coach has been there for a while.
You can list the guys at Alabama that this applies to in 07-09 as well as LSU could in the early 2000's.
Doing it the second time around at the same school has historically been a tougher row to hoe.

Because it has happened once before, right?
Do you remember the numerous "Saban has never had back-to-back 10-win seasons" threads?
Same thing.
The difference between 2010 Bama and 2004 LSU is that the SECw is tougher now.
