He bought a stolen laptop. He said it was a mistake so I assume he knew it was sketchy.

He bought it out of some guy's trunk.

I don't think he stole it but he sure as hell knew something was up becuase he threw it out the window when the cops showed up......I mean if at that point he didn't think he had done anything wrong why throw the damn thing out the window.

Cam's story is he bought a stolen laptop out of the back of a guys car. Because there was a deal made and charges were eventually dropped, how it actually went down never had to be proven. I think a reasonable person could look at the situation and have the opinion that he stole it and his story is a spin job. I am not sure anyone in the public knows for sure.

There is actually a question about this now. The police report was posted online recently, and it sounded a lot more likely that he KNEW it was stolen, and there seems to be some suspicion that he actually stole it. The police dropped a felony burglary charge on him, but apparently never pressed the issue of where he "bought" the laptop. Might have been the Florida influence on the proceedings?
If you read the police report, there is absolutely no doubt he knew it was stolen, and his actions when the police showed up make him look like a complete idiot.

He paid cash to another student and was aware something was shady. He admitted as much.

He claims he bought it for $100 and should have known it was too good to be true.
that should pretty much clear it up, I mean who here hasnt run into people selling shite for 100...
