I think there's a difference in turning over financial records and directly proving where the funds come from. If I was Mr. Newton, I would be screaming from the mountain tops from where and whom I received the money to refurb my church. Especially if someone was trying to soil one of my children's name.

This. Of course he would hand over bank records. There's not going to be a 200K deposit from Gene Chizik in his bank statements. If this happened, it would have been under the table, and probably in cash.
He needs to tell where the money did come from.

Exactly. If all of this is completely above board, most of the rumors get squashed immediately. This distraction for Newton and Auburn could play on forever if he doesn't do this.

He is under a gag order, as well as Cam, as well as Chizik, as well as everyone associated with this. The only ones not under the gag order are the reporters and a couple of former players, well they were asked to but aren't following the request.
