There were several factors working against the crowd being up for that game. After losing the core of our 2004 team we knew we were goign to be somewhat rebuilding. Also, that was right after Katrina, so there were a lot of other things on people's minds and we thought one of our players had lost his family in the storm (luckily those reports turned out to be untrue and they were all safely in Houston).

I have never been to a game in BR, so I can't compare JHS to TS directly. I think the noise level that you hear in JHS depends greatly on where you are sitting. My seats are near the top of section 39 (north endzone) so there is really no sound coming from behind me so it doesn't soung that loud. The couple of games I have been to @ Neyland it sounded really loud because I was right on the walkway and there were thousands of people behind and above me.

I will say that JHS has the ability to be very loud on the field due to geography. The stadium is built on an old creekbed, and the field sits down in the valley, with the east and west stands being the "banks". If you are on campus, you will notice how the concourses outside the endzones are well off the ground but the sideline concourses are ground level. When you come in on the east and west side, you have to walk down to get to the seats right by the field. So the ground helps trap/amplify the sound, much like it does at Clemson.

ESPN should start bringing decibel-measuring devices to the stadiums to measure the crowd noise. If the fans knew they were competing against other stadiums, it would make the venues that much better. Maybe they should make it an ESPY award and randomly invite a few fans from the winning team to attend and accept the award....do they make denim tuxedos?
