I`m planning on making my first trip to Oxford in a few weeks and was looking for some advice. I`m probably staying with some of my friend`s friends so I`m sure they`ll be able to show me a good time. But, in case they suck what`s the best plan to get the most out of oxford? What bars are the best on game day weekends? Do you have a greek row or is it spread out? Do ya`ll have lambda chi or pike? Any big bands in town for the weekend?
Also, we might be taking my buddy`s RV. Wheres the best lot that it`d be possible to get a spot/pass? Is everything in walking distance of it?

went last year over the summer during their super regionals. had the best catfish i think i have ever had at this place call taylors grocery...its a little outside campus, but it was absolutly outstanding, and you can bring your own beer. it was really crowded, so people were just tailgating in the parking lot before they got to eat
!!! only 2 bars i went to were call the billiards club (i think) and the library. thought the libraby was better though. the square is a pretty cool place and some pretty good restraunts. really nice town. hope i can make it down at the end of the month too

I know they have Pike, and if you like to fight, they will be glad to help you out. About thirty of them walked us to the car a few years ago, because my friend had long hair and girls thought he was cute.

Don't take the RV. Oxford is not that type of place.
Definitely buck up and pay the cover to get in The Library. If you want to experience what Ole Miss "is" in terms of hot chicks and the party scene, that is the place. If it rains the day before the game, wear some really crappy shoes because the overcrowded Grove will be muddy and nasty as hell.
Also white robes are a big hit on the Grove so might want to bring some to fit in.
j/k you will have a good time.
DO NOT WHATSOEVER drive drunk. Oxford cops are notorious for DUI's. There will be road blocks and Highway Patrol defines "probable cause" as "driving past midnight." Taxis will be everywhere on the Square for about 5 bucks a person.

This!!
For bars The Library is great for a party scene. If you like a bit more of a subdued atmosphere, check out City Grocery and The Burgundy Room. There are a ton of bars on the Square though, just bounce around till you find the right one. Go to Ajax for a good, semi-cheap meal on the Square. I eat there every time I make it up to Oxford.

We took an RV for the Bama game last year. We parked at Oxford Mall Shopping Center on Jackson Avenue, which is right at the end of Fraternity Row. A straight shot to The Grove and the stadium, parking was free, and we had a great time partying with Bama and Ole Miss fans alike.

One of the best things about that weekend is that it's Halloween. Talent out on Friday night should be extra strong. All the girls dress up there.

MGMT is at the Lyric Saturday night. mmjones summed it up.

Depends on what direction your going. I would avoid Jackson Ave, though.

Bars:
Library -(drunkest hotty scene)
Burgundy Room -(more laid back, nice balcony overlooking the square, your more classy joint
City Grocery (same as burgundy)
Roosters- ( huge balcony overlooking the square, that gives you a party on the inside, relax on the outside feel)
Frank & Marley's- (the UK fans I took here loved it. Its a three level bar, with rap on top, outside deck in the middle and the piano bar at the bottom, which I highly recommend. UK weekend, the man played from dixie with love and free bird on the damn piano
Taylors Pub- good bar
Proud Larry's- always has live music, usually blues
The Lyric- The big band type spot
(Those are my suggestions, but try and get to the square early to bar hop. I noticed you said you went to billards, which wasnt a good idea, just stay on the square. Also if you find your way to the Library and get hungry they make the best corn dogs right there on the square, also hot dogs next to Taylor's)
Restaurants:
City Grocery- fine dinning, Oxfords best restaurant, make reservations a week in advance
208- good seafood, great bar scene
Waltz- very good high end restaurant
Boure- not as nice as the previous places, but very good
Ajax- good ol' southern food
Prime- good steakhouse
Irie & Roosters- both good places to eat sunday afternoon before you leave.
Big Bad Breakfast- best breakfast you've ever had, got to wait an hour and half on game weekends though.
Taylors Grocery- as you already mentioned.

I wanted to go so bad to that. Tickets are ridic though. They sold out in like 5 minutes and are going for like 200 bucks online. Biggest thing to happen to Oxford in a while. It will be a great show in a great venue.

I like the lyric a lot. I saw Perpetual Groove there last year.

this is the best spot unless you get to Oxford before three on Friday, then I'd suggest the baseball field's parking lot.
