on Austin sports talk radio this morning:

quote:

The Big 12 Conference promised Texas A&M $20 million annually and the Aggies intend to collect, A&M president R. Bowen Loftin said Wednesday.

“A key part of Texas A&M’s decision to remain in the Big 12 earlier this summer was the commissioner’s commitment that Texas A&M would receive a minimum of $20 million annually in future conference distributions,” Loftin said in a statement. “We remain committed to the conference and fully anticipate that the Big 12 will honor its commitment to Texas A&M.”

And what happens if the Big 12 doesn’t honor its $20 million pledge? A high-ranking A&M official said late Wednesday that every legal avenue would be explored first, with the potential of bolting for the Southeastern Conference coming after.

I really hope Dan Bebee fricks this up and cant fulfill his promise. Bring on the Aggies...pt 2

It's only a matter of time before the Big XII folds. A&M to the SEC is probably inevitable.

A&M is trying hard to drive their own future. This is pissing Texas off with all other Big 12 schools loving it. Look for Texas to do an end around and talk directly to the SEC at some point for admittance and try to control the whole realignment.

Texas so dearly wants to tell A&M to shut up or leave but they can't because they know a move to the SEC is a much better deal for A&M.

I kige with tiger perry. It's completely obvious. I don't really think a lot of those schools REALLY wanted to stay in that league, and only did at the 11th hour because of money. In less than 5 years this whole situation is going to repeat, only A&M isn't going to be roped into staying and will say "see ya" and bolt for the SEC.

What this sounds like to me is A&M lawyers are having a much harder time of getting the 20 million in writing than they had assumed. And if Beebe is not willing to put it in writing then that tells A&M that Beebe is not positive he can get the money.

We all knew this tv deal made no sense fiscally. There is simply no way that the Big 12-2 can have the same value to a sports channel as the SEC when the Big12-2 only has 3 premier programs (only 2 of which currently have any national interest whatsoever).

There was no new tv deal.

Basically the tv deal for the Big 12 will be honored with 2 less teams, providing a greater share per team.

If Fox and friends did not do so they had a total change in football and tv landscapes on their hands and would have to renegotiate tv contracts across America and it would have cost them way more money to do so.

I lost my patronage for A&M when they chose to stay in the Big 12 for a larger share of the revenue pie than the other institutions got...the exact reason they were pissed about Texas.
It was wrong when they weren't getting it, but now they are hunky-dory...as long as they are getting it too.

So glad the SEC has it right.

frick A&M. I was all about them coming, but I don't see why we should be the beggers in this situation. They had their chance, I wouldn't give them a second.

The additional money from the shortfall (everyone knew the $20 mil was a bullshite number pulled out of their arse with nothing to back it up, but used because that is roughly what SEC schools get, slighty more) is supposed to come from $30-$40 million in fees paid by Nebraska and Colorado for leaving. (Yeah, good luck with that).

It is supposed to be shared between Texas, OU, and A&M (which is complete bullshite to just say we will share between 3 schools, not the conference). Texas and OU have said they do not want their share, probably because their is no way they will collect $30-$40 million from Nebraska and Colorado anytime soon if ever. A&M says, frick everyone, we are going to hold people accountable to what was agreed upon when we decided to stay. The "bolt to the SEC" is just a bluff for leverage to enforce what was agreed on IMO.

I still want them. LSU fans should be licking their chops over all the potential recruiting they could do in Texas with an SEC team there.

A&M didn't chose to stay in the Big 12.

This isn't about what A&M wants or the Longhorns playing reindeer games or the SEC being a better financial option or anything mentioned in this thread.

This has nothing to do with common sense or fiscal responsibility. The politicians in the state of Texas are set on keeping Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech (and probably Baylor as well) together and they will threaten and twist arms and do whatever they have to do to keep them together.

Having the Texas market is good for the SEC and A&M. It will happen in the next 12 months. Putting aside all the bad blood I hope A&M, Texas and OU come on board.

There never was a fee to be paid by Nebraska & Colorado. You have your facts wrong. The penalty for those schools is that they will have their TV revenue for this season severely docked.

Just an FYI.....this idea was cooked up by the Big 12 schools who were going to be left out of the new Pac 16. This was not some evil power play cooked up by A&M, Texas & OU.

I'd absolutely love to have A&M in the SEC, and I dont see how we're "begging" ??

The SEC would love nothing more than to have a footprint in Texas, but has the luxury of sitting back and letting things play out without too much interference from B'ham. The BigXII will collapse in on itself well before the next 5 years is up, UT will make another power play, A&M wont be able to be consoled, and they will be knocking on Slive's door. And from what I heard on the radio this morning, the powers that be up atop the A&M board would really want it to happen

aTm sounds like an ex-girlfriend of mine. Desperate, clingy, and willing to convince herself beyond a shadow of a doubt that I would love to have her. But if we were together, I'd just end up PIIHB a lot, but she'd stay because she can't get any better.

Since I live within driving distance to some Big 10 stadiums, a move to that conference was always my selfish first choice BUT if splitting up the core Texas universities is impossible, and if everything is about to go nuts and super-conferences are about to be formed, I would like to see Texas, A&M, Texas Tech and Baylor shift to make the SEC a 16 conference.

I agree. The fact that A&M didn't jump all over this chance to get out of Texas' shadow in the first place was preposterous. They had their chance, we don't need them.

I have 2 aggie brothers-in-law so we have these conversation often. Those 2 guys, and most Aggies I talk with, are convinced that they would relatively quickly become a power in the SEC. How do they expect this to happen since they haven't set the world on fire in a weaker Big 12 and haven't won a national title since 1939? I can't make sense of their responses but they are passionate about their stance.
