All this mullen talk has me wondering, is it a stepping stone for his resume? There aren't many career coaches these days but how do u perceive his stint with moo st? Is he in it for the long haul?
Not a flame, just wanted a few opinions.

Yes. When was the last time Mississippi State played for a national championship? The same could be said for Ole Miss.

"Mississippi State is a stepping-stone job with a dead end...."
....rough quote from an ESPN talking head circa early 2000's

Possibly not NOW. But, IF Mullen is 'successful' and brings up the program, then leaves for 'bigger' job....then, the program is shown to capable and in better situation. They hire another good coach (who can see it is not a graveyard).
As THAT coach improves it, perhaps more resources are put into it and it can become a 'career job' location.
Possible.

Its a career job for basketball or baseball.
See Rick Stansbury and Ron Polk
For football it has been a graveyard throughout our history with the one exception being Darrell Royal (who left state for Texas in the 50's)

The only place I see him leaving for is florida. if the wins come the money will come and there is no better place to coach than in the SEC.

I think he is a good coach, they have alot of ground to make up. If he stays 5 more years I see them being competetive in the west.

I think we can keep his salary competitive with the other teams in the sec minus FL AL LSU but why leave a place where the people worship your every move if you win 6- 8 games a year to go to LSU who wants to kill you if you dont win 10+ games a season

umm.......no. If Auburn, UGA, Arky, and TN wanted Mullen, MSU wouldn't stand a chance.
And there are good coaching jobs outside of the SEC. I'd put strong money on him leaving the conference first.

The places you listed have way higher expectations than MSU. If it were me i would collect my millions in starkville live like a god and not have to worry about pushy boosters who arent satisfied with 8 win seasons i dont doubt that the places you listed aren't better jobs just not as easy as the one in starkville as far as keeping the fanbase happy

And UF, Bama, and LSU don't?
I would agree with your assessment if the coach had prior ties to a school, but there are absolutely no ties with Mullen to Starkville and it's ignorant to think a coach wouldn't want to improve himself.
....and unfortunately for both MS fanbases, improving yourself as a coach is leaving for greener pastures.
....and by greener pastures, I'm referring to better jobs.....not the actual cow pastures that occupy most of Oktibeeha Co. I can understand the confusion though.

These folks got where they are because they are CONFIDENT and COMPETITIVE.
Most would not stay just because it is less demanding. They BELIEVE they are good and can win.
Again, I am on the positive side. Even if Mullen leaves, it would mean that MSU was in a better situation. Another coach can come in and keep it going. THEN, MSU becomes a 'career job'. But, you folks will have higher expectations, too.

This....his opinion on Mullen is describing a very POOR coach.

Thanks for clearing that up I was about to get my realestate magazine out and make sure that we had the greenest pastures that the south had to offer

Everyone who is close to him at State believes he will leave for an elite job...not a place like Arky.

Why wouldnt he stay if he won and we paid him well?

lets see.....somewhere that has better facilities, easier recruiting grounds, somewhere that isn't within a 100 miles of Saban, etc.
If Mullen does well enough to gain interest from other schools, I think he'll go somewhere that he can win a conference championship somewhere else first.
MSU would have to win the west a few times for Florida to seriously look at him IMHO. Way too much riding on a program like Florida to take a chance on someone who "just took MSU to a few bowls"
