How would you rate Mullen as compared to other young coaches across America say under 45?

I have him in the top 2 along with Houston's Kevin Sumlin.

USA today has a great article on Coach Mullen today
LINK

I dont know a single Mississippi State fan who has to yet say anything bad about him. I would love for him to stay at State for a long time but I dont see him sticking around any longer than 2 or 3 yeas max once he leads us to a couple of bowl games, even if they are low scale bowl games like the Liberty and Music City bowl.

What are you guys thoughts on Dan Mullen as a coach (I dont want to know your take on MSU) and his potential to eventually end up being a high profile BCS head coach.

I want to hear serious discussion about DAN MULLEN, not Mississippi State's history or their record from last year.

I think he and Will Mushcamp are the two best young coaches. Also, I think you have to put Kirby Smart in there with them.

I love his passion as a coach and while he's a players coach that recruits well, he's also a coaches coach. He's very good with x's and o's and he specializes in something which all great head coaches do-i.e. Urban:offense, Nick: defense. Being young helps because you know he has years left. If something happened to where we had to get rid of Les, he would be my top choice.

I think he has potential to be a decent D-1 coach but the only basis we have is a 5-7 season with wins over Jackson State, Vandy, MTSU, Kentucky, and Ole Miss.

He's a proven coordinator and people on this board seem to think he is some sort of HC wunderkind, so I guess he is doing well for MSU as far as the SEC rant is concerned.

Consistently being the 6th best school is the SECW recruiting-wise isn't going to cut it in the long run, tho.

I don't think he has what it takes to be a great HC.

No doubt he's a good OC and will definitely upgrade MS State on that side of the ball (not hard to do), but he seems to be missing some characteristic which other successful coaches have.

maybe his goofy looks gives the impression that he isn't confident.

Sumlin isn't that young. He's in his mid-40s

In terms of coaches under 40, Mullen and Sarkisian are probably the most talented

Will Muschamp and Kirby Smart are not in the conversation since they are not head coaches...to get back on topic, Mullen has got to be one of them...I personally like the guy...I listend to an interview with him on Finebaum and he definintely knows what it takes...

Those two guys are GREAT assistant coaches, who will be awesome head coaches in the near future. But my original question was who is the BEST young HEAD COACH.

I would take him over Sumlin myself.

I think you guys got a good one, but he will leave in a few years like you said. I see a bowl game for Miss St this year and I fear you guys may get us on Thursday night.

thats how I feel. Its hard to imagine him as an elite coach due to how goofy he looks, but I guess that has nothing to do with his coaching ability

Question for you...what would the fallout be like for Miss St. fans if he left to go to a team like an LSU, UGA, or UF?

Well, you want to talk about DAN MULLEN as a coach then you have to talk about his record from last year. I'm not going to wax poetic about the guy as a person because a) I don't know him and b) I don't give a flying frick.

He has only won five games as a head coach and has so far not shown much ability as a recruiter.

Not everyone saw Nick Saban as an elite HC when he was at Toledo and Michigan State.

State fans have already excepted he's gone as soon as he puts together back to back winning seasons or an 8 win season. They seem to be fine with it as long as he builds a solid foundation and makes the programs more attractive for a new decent coach

Why is everyone so quick to rank these young coaches? What if MSU does terrible next year? Will yall feel the same way? Will it mean anything? Probably not.

The point is give it time.

Seriously, why do people fricking think he recruits well. He's no better a recruiter than Croom thus far.
