How in the world did Mack Brown only have a true freshman as the #2 QB behind McCoy?
I know... Germans.... Nazis... but still boggles my mind.

I don't know how many prior snaps he took before that game, but with Texas' record you'd have thought Mac would have given him more game time in case something like this happens.

A lot of Texas's games were fairly close. And they were trying to win a Heisman for Colt. That said, I still don't know how you only have a true frosh as a backup... although if Reed moves to TE, Florida will be in the exact same situation.

Because the true freshman was better than Sherrod Harris or converted WR John Chiles. It's not like Gilbert is a scrub.

Yeah he played well, but there should have been a junior or sophmore in line with more snaps.

The older guys didn't pan out as QB's. Chiles moved to WR and Harris isn't as good as Gilbert. They thought they would be better, but they weren't.

Mack Brown makes 5 mil a year. I am sure he had a backup plan. Of course everyone should know the 7 P's. Prior Preparations and Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance.
Then again who knows?!

You suck at flaming dick monger. Mack Brown was prepared going into the game. Did you not see your offense fold against his defense the first couple of possessions. They had a huge setback, and a definite loss of momentum offensively and defensively when McCoy got injured. The kid is a true freshman and was better than the other QB's on the roster, but I guess you're qualified to tell Mack that Gilbert isn't better. There's not much of a backup plan when you lose a Heisman finalist QB. I suppose you would have had a better back up plan master talent evaluator.

Snead was McCoy's back up and he left. It's kind of like LSU losing RP, it creates a whole if you have to depend on a backup you suddenly don't have.

Totally forgot about Snead. Makes sense now why things were like they were.

It's nice re-watching NC games. I'll still go to Youtube occasionally to watch Major Wright light up that Oklahoma WR.
Unfortunately you bastards ruined any chance for me to re-watch championship games this last year.

finally somebody gets it right

Snead had been gone for what, three years? Come on, that stops being an excuse after a while, they had time to adjust. I guess a few guys just didn't turn out right, fwiw we probably would have gone with a true freshman as well if our guy had gotten hurt, a 150 pound true freshmen.

You do realize that Nick Saban's backup plan if McElroy went down was to play a true freshman with absolutely zero snaps prior to the game right. Sometimes that's just how depth works out with qbs.

Snead left the team and their substitute frosh QB played extremely well
Hats off to Mack for making it competitive when their best player went down
