Houston Nutt always get's a lot out of what he has. It's hard to judge him because he has coached/coaches at second tier SEC programs. It's hard to recruit AND WIN at those places.

Ole Miss & Ark will always be looking up (depending on the year) to Alabama, LSU, or Auburn.

It's kind of like Kentucky, Vandy, & South Carolina. South Carolina is probably the best example. You have one of the greatest SEC coaches and he can't win SEC titles there. Why is that? Well just like before, South Carolina will always be looking up at (depending on the year) to Tenn, Florida, & UGA. Just life

No, I'm sick of the "Nutt's gonna have a NC, and lead Ole Pississippi to the land of milk and honey, oh, and Petrino sucks" fans. I don't think there's a program in the SEC that would trade (except for maybe Vandy) coaches...
Just say'n.
1) Petrino doesn't suck
2) I'm done with the Nutt kissing (No pun intended)

Does the land of milk and honey = Atlanta

because that needs to be what they shoot for. Shoot for Atlanta ... Once you get there, then you can start to aim higher.

ETA: You can also insert Omaha for Atlanta above depending on the season.

As far as the original post, I think Houston Nutt is a decent coach, certainly not great. I almost puked when Saban recommended LSU hire him when he left for Miami. I'm thankful we did not take his advice. IMO, though, Nutt is a nice fit for Ole Miss, though.

I think HDN is a very good coach. Saban rec'd him to LSU if I recall.

Didn't he take a "meh" Arky team to Death Valley and beat National Champion LSU in 07?

Yeah... he's a clown.

Great is subjective term- he's clearly a good coach, you can decide for yourself what great means.

As always, I hope this helps.

That team should have never been "meh". That was a 10-11 win caliber team.

Ive never once said that Nutt is gonna give us a national title...but at the same time Petrino isnt gonna give the little piggies one either...

Nutt is a good coach. Top Tier? No prolly not. But he has given our program back to back Cotton bowl wins along with back to back wins over LSU and Piggly Wiggly. So after what Coach O did here i'll happy take HDN.

Oh and BTW Petrino does suck the big one

I thought he never recruited that kind of 10-win talent to Arky?

No flame, and that team had a disappointing season, jus sayin...

McFadden came on his own. Never even looked at other schools. He should have counted for 15 stars

That season was full of huge choke jobs. I put the blame squarely on the coach.

Up in the 4th quarter @ Alabama...lost
Up by 8 in 4th quarter vs. Kentucky...lost
Up in the 4th quarter with about a minute left vs Auburn...lost.

Who cares... Nutt is a proven winner in the SEC. You have to be a good coach to be that.

That falls on the coach, sure, but maybe considering the talent level (again, mostly Nutt's fault), he overachieved in some twisted respect.

Says something positive about his gameday coaching ability - like the 06 season where he won 10 games.

What were your thoughts on the 06 SECCG team?

I dont think he is a great coach, and he showed how good he was losing to my bulldogs in the Egg Bowl this year vs a new coach and the same players he beat 45-0 the year before.

Yeah, that backfield tandem of McFadden and Jones was "meh".

No doubt they were one of the best tandems ever, but per Arky fans he wasn't a good recruiter, so the overall talent level of the team should've been at the 7 to 8 win level.

Right?

I don't know about that, but I was at the 07 game. Other than the QB, that ARK team was loaded with talent. Offensive and Defensive lineman were huge, fast, and strong.

I left that game thinking how in the hell did Houston Nutt not win the SEC and possibly the NC with the talent on that team. How did they lose 5 games that year???
