My opinion (my criteria is chances you will win a BCS title in a given year)
1. Texas- beyond fertile recruiting ground, deep pocketed alumni, marketable name, overall weak competition.
2. Florida- great recruiting ground, plenty of money, top notch AD, big stadium
3. Alabama- good enough recruiting ground with marketable name, has had consistent success in recruiting all states that border Alabama and some beyond, a coach that is not clearly on path to BCS championship will be fire, legions of committed fans
4. LSU- great recruiting grounds, great fans, lack of long term consistent success puts them behind Alabama in my book, all of the states resources such as radios, papers, televisions, and websites should support team 100%. Thus kids in Louisiana grow up only hearing positive about LSU
5. USC great recruiting ground, top of conference, but lack of competition means winning championship games can and will be difficult.

I'd agree with LSU. Thank God yall have a bottom 5 coach. If yall land a coach the winner of the SEC west b/t yall and bama would become the national champion every year I bet.

Good list, however, I don't like Tex no.1, even with Texas recruiting being all that, I still don't like their chances of posting a NC in any given year.

wut

USC has raped in bowls during the last ten years. Vince Young had to be on another level to win the one championship type game they lost. Not to mention you mention the weak competition for Texas as a positive.

So wtf mate?

My list will look biased but here it is:
1. UF
2. Texas
3. USC
4. LSU
5. Ohio State

I think Alabama could slide in there too I guess. I think Florida is tops simply because it is the flagship school in the best recruiting state, strong academics, top conference, hugely successful AD, great location and tons of money. I think Texas is very very similar, pretty much 1A and 1B.

I am not arguing with LSU, but I still don't understand why the only bigtime succsess LSU has ever had was built by Saban.

For a school to have so many great resources, LSU was irrelevant for far too many years in my opinion.

bgator85 you have screwed up your no.5 Ohio State, they are whores, and not worthy of a five. Tell us what this is based on

Well then Texas gets the nod, because tradition has to count for something. Texas has it; Florida doesn't.

We have one of the 10-12 best histories in CFB history, we weren't "irrelevant" prior to Saban. People just remember the 90's and think that's all LSU was before he got here, but it's just not true.

I don't think history from 50 years ago is all that important in determining the top job today. In the past 20 years, nobody has won as many games as Florida or won as many National Championships. UF now has 3 titles to their 4. Not to mention this topic has been surveyed by NCAA coaches, and UF came out on top.

I think Ohio State ranks high because they are in a position to win a national title all the time. It is the nature of their conference and they have the ability to recruit reasonably well. Plus they have a huge athletic department with tons of resources.

Clearly your list is wrong.

1. Arkansas
2. Auburn
3. Ole Miss
4. LSU
5. Nobody cares who is fifth in lists like this.

These are your Top 4 coaching jobs in college football. Why? Because we are just that Goddamn self-important, that's why.

To me I'd put Texas first because they have by far the biggest revenue from football. Since most other aspects are fairly equal, this makes the difference for me.

I'd put:

1. Texas
2. Florida
3. USC (if there are no sanctions - if sanctioned harshly, they fall off the list)

After those 3 I'd say it could go different directions but it would have to be one of the high paying ones:

LSU, Bama, Ohio State, OU, ND, Michigan would probably be the schools fighting for the spots since they're currently paying a massive salary and they're a top recruiting program each year. They all have fanbases that are really hard to please though.

If I had to pick 2, then I'd go with:

4. ND - it's really easy to recruit there and you're a god if you win.

5. LSU - Getting all the Louisiana recruits plus a good bit from Texas and Mobile would put them a little over the others for me. I think it's a little easier to recruit there. Ohio is a pretty talent rich state and they could be a top 5 school as well.

I'd probably go 6 Ohio St. 7 Bama

Jobs like Michigan and Nebraska could easily jump up on the list with a few good years but they're just down a bit right now.

Hey I can't change our past, but things change. You go back to 1950, Florida had one of the smallest populations in the SEC. Due to huge amounts of growth (which pretty much coincides with the Florida schools coming into elite ranks), Florida now has more people living there than in Arkansas, Alabama, South Carolina, Mississippi and Louisiana combined.

A coach today cares about winning today. And in Florida, arguably the top recruiting state in the country, the talent usually looks to Florida schools first.

Florida/Texas/Cali can all argue for the best recruiting state depending on the year.

The biggest difference to me is the revenue and profit the program generates. Texas has been number 1 5 of the last 6 years and this year they were way beyond everyone.

They took in 87 million. 2nd was Ohio State with 68 million. The gap is huge.
