Less than 5 years ago this travesty took place. It would not happen today because of the SEC's dominance on the national stage.

The only thing that makes me want to root for UT is not the Bama fans, but the LSU fans who will be moaning on this board for months until the next football season starts if Bama wins.

Correct, and as a result of LSU and Florida. The SEC will not be excluded (eg cincy 2009 Auburn 2004) and therefore Alabama's victory would only enforce the current notion, and I doubt a loss would hurt it. I would rather not see a division rival with a coach wiht strong recruiting ties in Louisiana win a NC.

The "damage" is already done. He got there - he's undefeated, he beat Tebow in the SECCG that EVERYBODY watched. Bama has gotten a huge boost regardless. We might as well root for them to finish the job and keep the SEC streak going.

It's not like them losing to Texas will weaken their recruiting class noticeably.

Rooted for Bama last year in the SB. Just can't stand another let down like that. Hook em horns.

PS, Bama fans suck!

There's a different element at play here though. We have a lot at stake if Bama wins the NCG. If they get blown out, it's bad for the SEC. If they get beaten, it really isn't. The SEC has dominated the prior three NCGs.

The conference won't take a hit at all if they lose by 10 or less. It would probably take north of 14 to even be a blip on the conference reputation, particularly if the remaining SEC teams take care of business.

If Bama gets the crystal ball, I think it will do more damage to LSU in terms of recruiting than any hit to the conference reputation.

Hook 'em, Horns! (but not by too much)

Go Horns!

Two of the most arrogant, ignorant fan bases on this earth. Its a quandry. But Bama is a tad bit more arrogant and ignorant, so hook em.

I just don't see it this way. Once you're in the top 10 of recruiting, your guys are so damn talented and your team is so deep that it all comes down to coaching, luck, and momentum anyway.

USC has had top 10 recruiting classes since Carroll arrived and they're not some impossible juggernaut right now, nor will Bama be in 5 years. They'll be a great team but beatable - just like UF was all year this year.

and i might add it is GOOD FOR LSU if Bama wins it. why? because once the mountain is climbed, the winning team relaxes a bit and they forget how much work (and good fortune) it takes to get there. saban AND his team experienced this let down in '04 and so did LSU in '08. as we, and others, can attest, it's more difficult the second time. i want them to get it out of the way and i think they will be easier to beat in the near future.

Great point - and it's also disingenuous that LSU fans would happily root for UGA or UF or UT in a national championship game but not Bama.

That makes absolutely no sense and shows that it's mostly about jealousy. UF is an extra 100 miles away from Baton Rouge so that's why it's okay to root for them and not Bama? They're not more likely to steal a potential LSU recruit than Bama?

Give me a break.

Normally I root for SEC in a big game like this unless it's Texas.

as far as recruiting goes, saban is pretty much getting who he wants now. it's auburn that is more effective in louisiana recruiting.
