Who should it be?
A lot (seems to be the majority) believe Mike Anderson is the guy but I'm not sure Mike gets us back into the top 25 on a consistent basis.
So I ask you, my fellow SEC Ranters, who should be Arkansas's next basketball coach?

Would Mike leave Mizzou?
What is buyout for Pel?
Still early, but next year, they tank, the Arkie should pull the trigger.

if mizzou was able to hang onto anderson last year not sure arky can lure him away. isn't he still close with nolan?

Our bball program is in such a mess.

For the record Bama targeted Grant early, not Anderson.

We lost to Morgan St. last night, the only way Pel makes it is if Jeff Long does not think he can find someone better.
Attendance is way down, that is usually the last nail in the coffin for a coach.

Nolan wont give up the gig in Tulsa. The guy they will target is someone with Jamie Dixon ties, since Long hired Dixon and he wont get him to leave Pitt.

But would a NE guy work at Arkansas?
Posted on 11/25/09 at 10:32 pm to SLC
Lets see...
We didnt think the Leisure suit would work at Arkansas. We didnt think a guy from Creighton (the first time) would work. We didnt think that a guy from Wisconsin would be a good baseball coach.
Yes I think it works, the fanbase wants a winner with some integrity. Right now Pel has none in some circles and is losing the fans and admins quickly.

There's no excuse for losing to Morgan State in Bud Walton arena.
I went to a game the other night vs. Appy St. I swear, there used to be more people there when they would open up basketball practice before football games. The crowd was the thinnest I've ever seen it for a regular season game.
Mike Anderson makes the most sense. Sure, he turned down Bama. or Georgia, or whoever. Neither job is Arkansas. A winner will have 20k butts in the seats, knowledgeable fans who care, and a good paycheck.
Basketball will lose money this year. If Pel stays, they'll lose more next year. A Sweet 16 caliber team will pay for itself. 20k seats will sell out.
I think Mike Anderson would be intersted. He is Nolan's protege. Nolan still lives here in Fayetteville.
My dream scenario would be Mike Anderson with Corliss Williamson as an assistant and Nolan back as a mentor.
Pel inherited a shitstorm, but I haven't seen any improvement, and this is year 3.

I'm willing to try it. This is the worst the program has been in my lifetime.
Would there be any chance of landing Jamie Dixon or would it be more of a protege?

In your scenario, you will need someone to recruit. Might as well throw Scott Edgar in there too.

Anderson isnt coming to Fayetteville. At MU he can win now and cover things up well. MU is run by basketball and he doesnt have to live up to Norm Stewart. If Anderson comes to the Nam he will always be compared to Nolan. I think it needs to be someone who has ties to Long, someone who also understands what the "monster" is and most importantly...knows how to handle the monster when it is hungry (Pel just has not learned that part yet).

Pel simply was not ready for the job.
I do not know if he ever will be.

I dont know if Dixon would leave Pitt. I think the guy out there right now that someone like in the Marc Turegon mold. He built a very respectable team in Wichita, went to aTm and is doing a good job with not great players, and is young enough the fans will think he is here long term.
