Had it been Florida, Bama, LSU, or even Tennessee that went undefeated in 2004 do you think it still would have been OU and USC in the BCSNCG?

Yes, in 2004 before the SECCG was an automatic qualifier for the NC. The two teams that went ahead of them were both undefeated and the SEC didn't quite have the national clout that it does now.

Not sure. Auburn had an extremely weak schedule in 2004. I think, though, that the reason they were left out had more to do with two factors: 1) USC and OU were 1&2 all year while Auburn had climbed their way up to the 3 spot. 2) Auburn had suffered two bad losses to USC the previous two years.

For the 1 millionth time NO... OU and USC began the season in top 3 while Auburn started out 20-something.

If any team in a similar situation (outside the top 20 with OU and USC inside the top 3 in the preseason) the outcome would've been the same.

best of the last decade... and guys have proven themselves in the NFL -- Jay Rattlif, Marcus McNeil, Ronnie Brown, Ben Grubbs, Cadillac, etc...

I like how you left Jason Cambell off of that list

JCs certainly not a Pro-Bowler... but he's done more in the league than either of OUs or USCs QBs from 2004 -- Leinart and White.

Is white even still in the NFL, he and Troy Smith are prime examples of why the Heisman is a joke now

We're talking pre-bowl game. You got to play an average UT team twice, who lucked into a 10 win season and an SEC championship game appearance. If you don't count UT twice, Auburn played only 3 teams with winning records. 4 if you count UT (regular season and SEC Championship).

I would like someone to compare those three teams (really just USC and AU) with NFL careers... I left off Carlos Rogers, who is a solid NFL CB... Ben Obamanu spent some time with the Seahawks.

If I remember correctly, White was not even drafted.

The only team that would have had a chance to jump either USC or Texass would have been LSU. LSU started off #3 and was the defending BCSNC.

Besides Bama and Florida, this is a down year for the SEC. We have two really good teams, one maybe two 8 or 9 win teams and 5 or 6 mediocre teams with 6-7 wins.

I think it was more Auburn's OOC schedule that had people questioning the Tigers in 2004. Regardless, no one was overtaking USC and Oklahoma, who started out in the top two spots.

Short answer, yes any other team would have been left out. Number 1 and number 2 ran the table, were from power conferences before the recent SEC run of titles, and had better seasons in 2003 so they were going to play for the BSC championship regardless.

I thought Auburn got hosed and would have given USC all they wanted in the BCS game. Auburn's defense was NASTY that year.

if LSU would have went undefeated maybe we dislodge ou in the game. I doubt it would have happened had we went undefeated but just maybe bc of 03 it would have.

Alabama would have went on to the NC game no doubt. We are Bammer and everyone must bow down to our greatness.
