They have more votes than Alabama.

They are unbeaten and are the defending national champs with most of the starters from that team having returned. Oh, and they did beat Bama in December.

Sorry, I just checked both teams schedules and I don't see them playing each other this season unless they BOTH make it to Atlanta. This season is only halfway done and nothing is guarenteed at this point.

Being #1 also makes a team more of a target by other teams and the media. I would rather work from the #2 spot and win #1 in the championship. I always prefer to be the underdog.

If Bama doesnt get to the SEC championship, they wouldnt deserve #1 anyway.
