if a person is born in Ar then its pretty much a given they will be a HOG fan ...
however in Alabama their are 2 premier schools
so what determines who you are a fan of ....is it geography? family tradition, income ?
whats the deal

u get raised that way. and if you're an arse, you rebel for no good reason and choose the other team and your family hates you.

I could say it depends on where you, or your family memebers, attended college, but sadly that's not the case...either way.

Mostly family, followed by geography, I don't believe socio-economic level has anything to do with it.

I'm a Bama fan (even though I attended Auburn for 2 years before transferring) because my Grandparents, Parents, and Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins are Bama fans.

I'm a Redskins fan because someone gave me a hat they got on a trip back when I was 5 years old. I liked the colors.

If they are lucky enough, their dad went to another SEC school outside of Alabama so they don't pull for those losers.

rich = Auburn

actually, it who your dad is a fan of. Then you ask how did your dad choose?? Most dads hoped on the Bama bandwagon in the 60s and 70s because they were good. This is the reason for more fans for Bama in the state. They are all bandwagon fans in heritage.

My parent's went to Auburn and I had a close cousin play QB at Auburn.

Auburn fans are gluttons for punishment and inevitable failure though. so it's a trade off.

It's a family thing. If all you ever expect from your child is to be #2 you steer them towards Auburn.

oh yeah... no, i forgot to mention. IF you are GOOD aligned, you generally lean towards Alabama... and if you are EVIL aligned, you lean towards Auburn.

It's all about family and location, and generally those two aspects are mutually inclusive.

For example, a majority of Lee and Montgomery Counties' population would say they are an Auburn fan because their families have been Auburn fans, but most other counties lean towards Alabama, with a few being pretty close to 50/50.

Overall the spread of fanbases totals to be around 65/35 to 60/40 in favor of Alabama.

Are there any Barners or Gumps on here who cheer for both teams? Do you know any one who does?

I wouldn't consider them true fans if they did. I doubt there are any UNC/Duke, OSU/Michigan or UK/Louisville fans who cheer for both. That's what I like about these kind of rivalries, pure hatred for each others teams. I wish we had one like that. It would be even more fun.
