Physically the kid looks like an NFL quarterback..and from what I have read is "THE REAL DEAL"..Mater Dei usually has some PRETTY GOOD FOOTBALL PLAYERS..Kid must be pretty special to start as a true freshman..
Barkley defintely has all the tools and wasn't named the player of the year coming out of high school for nothing. But I saw him get knocked around and throw 2 pick 6s when Mater Dei got knocked out of the play-offs last year, so he's not infallible (is anyone?).
It is interesting that Pete's starting a true freshman. He's never done it at USC and I read some speculation somewhere that it's a first at USC. But mostly it really says a lot about Mustain that a kid that just joined the program is starting instead of Mustain in spite of the fact Mustain been in the program through two seasons.

I've seen talk that not knowing the play book is part of the reason he's not starting. I've also seen talk that Mustain's struggled to maintain his grades, so it might be that Carroll doesn't want to take a chance and invest a season in someone who may not remain eligible.

Barkley passed Mustain in a week in Spring Ball. he is a good QB, just 3rd best.
