Lots of quotes from the OL coach. Good overview of the situation.

aren't they usually challenged in one form or another?

Last year's offensive line was a key component into why we sucked. When our offense was finally starting to click at some point during a game, BOOM; false start penalty. Then, on the next play, 1st and 15; BOOM; another false start penalty.

I blame that on the coaching situation more than anything.

Hopefully we can get that fixed up. Grimes is a great offensive line coach.

Ziemba got false starts due to a knee injury that prevented him from getting good leverage. He had knee surgery and tacked on nearly 30 pounds and said he feels like a new linemen.

The starters are solid, save for our Right Tackle that will be the challenge. The other big question mark is depth we have some walk ons coming in and a few guys we want to redshirt if possible.

We can take a loss at the interior of the line but we can't take a hit at the Tackles we just have no depth there. McCain really needs to step it up and we'll have a good season, at the same time he can't get injured.

Really missing Ramsey, that guy was a beast. I wish he was still healthy and able to play he had heart and tons of athletic ability.

According to the article...

Starters
Guards: Mike Berry and Byron Isom
Tackles: Lee Ziemba and Andrew McCain
Center: Ryan Pugh
All are experienced veterans.

Reserves
Bart Eddins (missed a lot of the Spring due to injury)
Rudy Odom (missed a lot of the Spring due to injury)
Darrell Roseman (injury-plagued career and only returned late in he Spring due to injury)
Vance Smith (converting from tight end)
A.J. Greene (converting from DL)

New players
Andre Harris (not ready)
John Sullen (not ready)

But I think Auburn is in better shape than Tennessee because four of Auburn's starters have two seasons left.

Ziemba and Pugh are very good and will likely play on sunday. The others are SEC quality, the problem is McCain is having issues at RT and that is the weakness right now. So for starters we are in good shape, the problem is depth, we have good depth at Guard and Center but no one can fill in at Left Tackle. Ziemba goes down it will be a LONG season.

I wouldn't so much list our depth on offensive line as a question mark; instead I would go with a word more along the lines of "nonexistent". Unless we have a diamond in the rough prospect with one of our more younger players at that position, we better pray that nobody tweaks an ankle.

Flat out agree. It really does suck that his career ended the way it did.

A large part of last years problem was 1) injury, 2)significant weight lose and 3) meercat stance. All and all, a recipe for disaster. Two of the three problems will change, and if they can avoid the injury bug, there should be a huge improvement from last season.

I agree that we will see improvement over last year. Last year's epic fail is behind this team and there is a new focus. I understand how really everyone but AU fans think this team will be terrible this year, but I think we will surprise some people with 7 wins and a bowl birth. Barring injuries (which unfortunatly are bound to happen) this OL and offense should atleast go from terrible to average, yielding 2 maybe 3 more wins than last year.

I agree Hatfield. With some OL protection, the QB, whoever it will be, will have more time to perform. If the RB's can hang on to the ball and the OL cuts down on needless penalty's, the offense should be much improved. From terrible to average would suit many AU fans, I would think....
