SEC baseball tournament; why not NO or Atl?

The ACC is having their tournament at Fenway Park soon, if not this year. Pros/cons of the SEC making a spectacle out of this thing and going to a Major League ballpark (or the Superdome) in the SEC footprint?

They don't fill up the Met for most of the games. It would look awful for the games at Turner Field or the Superdome with the seats almost 70+% empty.
Keep it at the Met for the cozy feeling and better atmosphere.

Everyone. And it would kill the atmosphere.

well, if they wanted to do it outside of Birmingham, they could do it in Gwinnett at the Braves' new AAA park. Pretty nice from what i hear.
But, just like there is no reason to take the SECCG out of Atlanta, there is no reason to take the baseball tourny out of B-Ham

Where else would you say to have the game? Obviously, there are SEC East schools closer to Atlanta than some of the West schools, but there isnt really a "central location" where no one has a travel advantage.
Athens: 70 miles
Auburn: 108 miles
Tuscaloosa: 202 miles
Columbia: 214 miles
Knoxville: 214 miles
Nashville: 249 miles
Starkville: 286 miles
Oxford: 331 miles
Gainesville: 334 miles
Lexington: 382 miles
Baton Rouge: 584 miles
Fayetteville: 699 miles
With the obvious exception of Baton Rouge and Fayetteville, there arent any campuses that are not driveable to Atlanta. Atlanta has a domed stadium where you never have to worry about weather. There are a shite ton of things to do in Atlanta as well.
Where the Hell else would you put it? New Orleans? then more than half of the conference is 500+ miles from the site of the game

Didn't a tornado damage it during the conference basketball tournament one year or was it played somewhere else? Because that would be some weather to worry about in a dome. Ha ha. Granted you're not likely to have tornadic activity in the winter.

i was shooting more or less at cold weather. but, like you said, tornadoes in december are very very unlikely.

the sec tourney at the superdome would downright suck.

quote:Atlanta is more centralized than New Orleans, Memphis, Nashville (do the math, boys), and any other viable city. The only other big city in the South that is more central is Birmingham, which doesn't have a stadium that most consider suitable. When there are only two teams who have a significant distance to travel, it's not a big problem.

South Alabama has a nice baseball stadium.
I like Havana, Mobile, or Hattiesburg.

Rotate it, and do the same for all sports.
Big 12 has their football and basketball championships from Kansas City to San Antonio.
Rotate it and make it fair.

You do that and the ACC will lock up the dome for that weekend..

Yeah, well frick the dome.
And frick the opinions of Georgia fans who have had the SECCG 90 miles from their campus every year for the last 15 years.
