Here is my 5:

Marcus Thornton- LSU
Jodie Meeks- UK
Nick Calathes- UF
Taz Mitchell- LSU
Patrick Patterson- UK

Freshmen of the Year: Courtney Fortson

I had a hard time deciding between Nick Calathes and Devan Downey. In the grand scheme I think Calathes brings more to the game. He leads league in Assits and hauls in 4 boards a game.

Thoughts?

Joshua, like 8 guys make All SEC... your 5 plus Fortson and Downey will along with Varnado.

and I'd think you were insane.

Varnado is great, but T Mitch is better.

I also think Varnado will beat out Tasmin.

I think it will be a toss-up between Calathes and Downey for the last spot on the first team, while the other player will join Tasmin and Tyler Smith on the second team.

Looks good to me.

I think second team should be:

Bo Spencer - LSU
Devan Downey - SC
David Huertas - Ole Miss / Tyler Smith - UT
Jarvis Varnado - MSU
Michael Washington - Ark / AJ Ogilvee - Vandy

Insane? dude blocks 5 shots per game. He is a huge game changer.

I would vote for Taz, but i dont htink the media would recognize him on a 5 player ballot.

if its 8 or 9, he'll def get in.

but with 5, you are talking 2 LSU guys and 2 Kentucky guys. Unlikely

If its nine then it should be

Thornton - LSU
Meeks - UK
Calathes - UF
Mitchell - LSU
Patterson - UK
Downey - SC
Varnado - MSU
Smith - UT
Washington - ARK

Then,

Ogilvee
Huertas
Spencer

I never understood why more than 5 players were put on the first team. It cheapens the recognition.

Tasmin absolutely deserves to be on first team, regardless of the fact that Thornton will also be on it. Two of the best players in the conference, period! Also, we are running away with the conference and also 25-4, along with the fact that we really have no quality depth and Taz and Marcus usually have to play 37 or more minutes and still always produce.

yeah. I'm surprised CJ doesn't get much attention for his shot blocking. prob because the rest of his game isn't that good. Last I saw, he was percentage points behind Vanardo. (may have been just SEC games though, cant remember)

Anbody that doesn't have Vanardo on there first team does not know much about basketball. He is the Returning National Defensive Player of the Year and his numbers are better than last year.

I said Varnado is great, but Taz is a much better player IMO. Props to Varnado for stepping up his offense this year and he has the makings of a solid NBA prospect but this year, Taz is better.

They are both putting up great numbers and both deserve to be on the 1st team though.

Varnado 13ppg, 9rpg, 1apg, 5 bpg, .6spg, 56%fg, 70%ft
Tasmin 17ppg, 7.3 rpg, 2apg, .7bpg, 1.6 spg, 55%fg(56%3ptfg), 73%ft

Varnado is a defensive game changer and Taz is an offensive game changer who can also make some clutch steals.

Jarvis Swat Varnado is fun to watch play. If he can gain 85 pounds next year I bet he will be a force in the NBA as well.

I like Taz too. A lot..

but if u are picking a 5 team ALL SEC team and trying to fill in positions, im not sure he fits.

yeah, CJ was a monster shot blocker once SEC play started averaging 3.8 bpg to Varnado's 4.3 bpg since SEC play started

so Patterson as the 4 and Varnado the 5? Is Calathes playing the 3? The beauty of Taz is he can play the 3 or 4

I would have:
PG-Calathes
SG-Thornton
3G/F-Meeks(more of a Point Forward than a Small Forward role...similar to Mashburn when he was there)
PF-Tasmin
C-Patterson

That would be legit.
