Walter Football said something about Ty Simpson in their very negative review of the Rams pick that I'd like Bama fans to expand on whether it's true or not, because I don't follow Alabama football close enough to know.

They said that if Simpson had come back to Bama, he may not even have been their starting QB this season. Is there any truth to that?

When healthy last season, he was REALLY good. Even behind a really, REALLY bad OL.

There is a ton of video of him playing QB at a ridiculously high level.

I don’t think the freshman phenom would have jumped him this season.

I don't think the issue was that if Ty came back he wouldn't start, the issue was if Ty came back, we would have lost one (or both) of Russell and Mack and that would have put us in a very bad situation with only Ty, a couple of true freshmen, and walk-ons in the QB room.

I think he pretty well made his mind up to enter the draft after seeing what the QB class was going to look like this year even though he only got meaningful reps this year. That was a somewhat of a gamble and honestly there wasn’t a ton of pressure to leave but I think it was more of a win for everyone if he entered the draft because of the depth behind him. Both those guys would have hit the portal if he stayed which would have made things interesting this year if Ty got hurt and maybe more interesting in 2027 with little experience behind him. There might have been a little consideration on transferring with the money being thrown at him but at the end of the day, Ty loves Alabama and didn’t want to tarnish that image. Even though there wasn’t a ton of film on him, the film that was out there was legit until the later half of the season when he was injured. That could be explained away to scouts if his workouts looked good once he healed up, which he looked pretty sharp at all of them. Seems like his plan worked to perfection and everyone including Alabama is happy.
