The men's team is top ten as well. We've beaten Auburn, Tennessee, Alabama, Texas, Georgia, State and Florida, although Texas is #1.

Not to dump on OU but is a perennial top 10 team in any sport mean anything if you're not going home with the trophy?

If you're 10th or 100th, what's the difference w/o the hardware? Not saying you won't win it of course, but what is the point if you finish 3rd or 9th? A job well done? A 3rd place finish trophy?

Bama tends to brag about this often and they're in the same boat - but they consistently have all their teams in the top tier. Minus football when they choke to Indiana or Michigan of course.

Well, obviously at some point you want a trophy. But being a top ten program helps recruiting, so you want to talk about it. It means you're one of the top programs in the country.

It's also a factor in the Learfield Directors Cup. That's become a focus of a lot schools. Prestige and recruiting.

Since last fall, LSU, Florida, OU and Texas all had at least 10 programs ranked in the top 25 with Florida having more teams than anyone. 14, I think.

LOL. Even if you win a championship in those minor spring sports... it gets dissed by everybody else... and a team's own fans only care because they can put it on their list of "championships".

However I think in this particular case. OU fans are making a big deal out of tennis success because we are competing at a high level in the SEC. I think most of us thought we wouldn't be able to compete in tennis... and most SEC fans think we can't compete in any sport. LOL.

But tennis is basically a European sport at the college level. OU has only one American on either team... So we did a good job of recruiting Europe with this batch of players. Who knows if it will stay that way.

We’re a sports school. Our women's sports are all top notch. We seem to have a knack for hiring great women's sports coaches. Even women's soccer is taking steps to be better. Thats a hard sport to improve it takes small steps every year.

Men have good programs as well, but overall mens sports are more competitive and have wilder up/down cycles. But mens golf and baseball and gym have been good too
