Let’s see if an SEC team can win a basketball tournament.

They are playing for $500,000 in NIL money to the winner.

I think they have gymnastics too.

Odd flex from the OP. $500k for NIL is nice, but pimping a toruney worse than the NIT is pretty sad OU

So you think going to Vegas on major network is worse than NIT on who knows what network. I promise Crown will get way more viewers and publicity than NIT. It’s not too big yet big enough. Has some good matchups. Last year Nebraska won it and it helped springboard them to sweet 16 this year.

No one on TV cares if its in Vegas or not. I think the $500k NIL is nice.

I think thats a leap to assume Neb winning last year had anything to do with them in the sweet 16 this year.

I agree with you the Crown will likely overtake the NIT since the NIT appears to be ok living in the past, just not sure its there yet. NIT is on ESPN and Crown on FS1 with champ on FOX. Guess we will see who tunes in more.

The main point though is you are promoting the Crown like its anything of substance that will boost your program. Crown or NIT it doesnt do much. Texas won the NIT a few years ago, no one cared.

Hope I am wrong though for the sake of the sport a 2nd tourney would be fun for viewers and fans

I've never even heard of that tournament but some decent teams are playing. Good for them.

Looks like 300K to winner, $100K to runner-up, 50K to 3rd and 4th place. No money to the first round losers.

Is it just a donation to the NIL fund from the tournament?

Think a lot goes to the current players. Keeps them around to play in it.

This is only the 2nd year so it’s in infancy.

The 2026 edition has eight teams instead of 16 like last year, and there were slots reserved from specific conferences; two teams from the Big Ten, Big 12 and Big East that didn't receive an NCAA Tournament bid, as well as two wild card selections. There is a $500,000 NIL prize pool for players in the tournament.

SEC team is a wildcard and not locked in each year. Perhaps if OU does well that could change.

And by comparison the NIT only has 4 P4 teams.

The NIT announced its 32-team field Sunday night, featuring just four teams from power conferences, with Auburn from the SEC as the top seed.
