She was in a one possession game with 2 minutes to go and Curry played the final 2 minutes like she was up 12. No time outs, no fouls to extend the game, no full court press. Louisville has struggled to hit free throws today and let the Cards take the air out of the ball with them up by 4 and a minute to go. Just piss poor end game coaching. We’ve got a mediocre women’s coach and a mediocre women’s team as a result. It’s time to upgrade and a great option would be former Bama player Madonna Thompson at Shelton State who always has them contending for the Juco national championship.

So close to the sweet 16. Damn that game was winnable. The women’s program is so close to taking that next step to be a very good program. We’ve just got to get over the first weekend hump.

Pretty head scratching decisions in the last couple minutes. Not sure why we chose not to foul them until it was too late while we had 3 time outs in our pockets.

Yeah, when you use absolutely no strategy to try and win that 2 point game, you’re going to catch hell. We’re paying Curry too much money to be a spectator on the bench. That game was very winnable and Alabama may have still come up short if Curry had tried every coaching trick in the book but if you try nothing, you win nothIng!

You have no idea what you’re talking about. She is doing really well with the resources she is given. LOL at Madonna Thompson. She is coaching JUCO for a reason.

Yes, the juco coach will surely upgrade us from the coach that has brought us the most success this century.

She's elevated the program from literally being the worst to annually making the tournament. To me, you let her ride it out until retirement, then see if Byrne can land a good up and coming coach to maintain success.

Curry ain't perfect either. She should have made the S16 last year with multiple WNBA players. But she's probably the best we could do unless Byrne can strike gold in the mid majors again.

We have a sizable segment of our fan base that scream for Madonna but answer me this, if she’s such an amazing coach, why has literally NO Division I school even interviewed her for a job? Doesn’t that kind of make you wonder?

To be fair, the same thing happened with Bucky in the men’s game coaching high school until Samford gave him a shot. I’d like to see a Samford or UAB or whoever give Thompson a shot in the women’s game.

I agree that jumping from JuCo to SEC doesn’t seem realistic.

Rick Moody brought us more success than Curry did. And oh, by the way, Moody started his career in the high school ranks so I think a Juco coach could handle it. He’s only the winningest women’s coach in Bama’s history and took them to their only Final Four.

Bama interviews Shelton State's Thompson

TUSCALOOSA | Shelton State Community College coach Madonna Thompson and Texas Tech coach Kristy Curry have interviewed for the vacant head women's basketball coaching position at the University of Alabama, The Tuscaloosa News has learned.

Thompson, 39, was a player on Alabama's 1994 Final Four team and participated in four NCAA Tournament appearances at UA. She has been head coach at Shelton State for 15 years, winning nine Alabama Community College Conference championships — including seven in the last eight years and two in a row.

Shelton State finished the regular season undefeated in 2012-13 and ended with a 33-1 record and made it to the quarterfinal round of the National Junior College Athletic Association tournament.

Curry has been head coach at Texas Tech for the last seven years, leading the Lady Raiders to three straight 20-win seasons and NCAA Tournament bids in 2010-11 and last season. She has compiled a 130-98 record at the school. In her previous head coaching stop, Curry led Purdue to seven straight NCAA Tournament appearances and a 179-51 record that included a trip to the national championship game in 2001.

Curry signed a five-year, $3.675 million contract in April of 2011, according to a report by the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal. The deal runs through the 2015-16 season and guarantees Curry $750,000 in the 2013-14 season.

Wendell Hudson was reassigned last month to an administrative position in the UA athletic department after five years as head coach.

Alabama went 68-87 under Hudson, including a 14-64 record in Southeastern Conference play.

If making the tournament is all we want to do, Curry is fine and will keep doing that more often than not. And she’s not going to make it to the second weekend very often either. If we want to make the Sweet 16 or better, we’ve got the wrong coach. It’s extremely rare that she upsets the upper crust of the SEC too. When was the last time we beat S. Carolina, LSU, or Texas? I’m just saying Curry has hit her ceiling. If everyone is ok with that, we’ve got our gal. If we want more, we don’t. Personally, I’m glad she’s not Wendell Hudson, but I’m ready to take the next step and I don’t think she can. Today’s end game was atrocious coaching. The Sweet Sixteen was there for the taking and Curry sits there with her thumb up her arse just letting the team play it out.
