Announced on March 9, 2026, Chinyelu became only the second player in conference history to win both the Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year awards in the same season, joining former Gator Patric Young (2014). A sociology major with a 3.48 GPA, Chinyelu also led the SEC in rebounding during the regular season with 11.7 per game.

Golden’s team overachieved expectations and Oats’ is about level with preseason expectations. The choice was obvious in my opinion. I’d make the argument that Cal probably had the most hard work from the bench this season given what he loss in the offseason and injuries in season.
