This should be interesting with the condition he has. I know that people go into a lathergic state if there isnt enough carbs to counteract the insulin they take. I am sure there would be a quick lawsuit if he got hurt bad because of that happening. I wonder how many D1 football players there are that are type 1 diabetics. Maybe its not that uncommon?

It’s more than just a lethargic state. If he is type one, low blood sugar can lead to a coma and death quickly. It’s an idiotic lawsuit, not only that physical activity causes your blood sugar to drop more rapidly

you need diabetes education so you don't sound so ignorant. people with type 1 DM do physical activity literally all the time and it's why insulin pumps are a thing.

whatever the real story is, he wasn't held out of practices and games and not allowed to travel because he is diabetic.

Thanks chief I deal with diabetes on a daily basis because my wife is Type one and I work in a hospital. Insulin pumps are far from infallible and have to be updated frequently to be remotely accurate. Type one diabetics go into diabetic comas quite frequently genius

Goofball doesn’t even know what he is talking about lol at no point did I suggest he was held out because he has a pump. What I said was if he is running low, physical activity causes your blood sugar to drop more quickly and your pump has to be suspended or it is life threatening. Homeboy Google insulin pumps to try to sound intelligent

Get off the horse dude you're not the only person on earth with diabetes.

For starters, is the coach doing this in a vacuum or is it just an article framing the coach, who may be perfectly justified in his decisions based on the player's medical history (which is private and wouldn't be disclosed in an article).

CGMs often come off from sweat, it's definitely coming off if someone hits you into next week. There's also the effects of the game itself - adrenaline is going to be high (spiking your sugar) and also low (you're exerting yourself to a huge degree) and it's difficult to keep track unless you have your CGM.

I'm a type 1 former cardio athlete & I pretty much cut out anything over 90-120 minutes due to the difficulties fueling. I'm sure the BYU medical staff does a better job of that, but there is probably a lot going on that we're not going to hear in an article

Insulin pumps are great but the wireless glucose monitors can be pretty off quite frequently. It’s a hard life and I hate it for anyone who is a Type one diabetic. My wife’s pump wakes her up a lot during the night
