Obviously hard to follow the GOAT

Saban lost 9 games away from Tuscaloosa between 2015-2023.
Deboer lost 7 games away from Tuscaloosa in his first two seasons.
...Being an Alabama fan would be really confusing right now. You've already prepared yourself mentally for the fact that Saban was 1 of 1 and there'd be a dropoff, but how do you balance the good things Deboer has done with the bad? I don't know what proper perspective is right how if you're an Alabama or what the rational take would be. But I am glad that Alabama fans are going through this shite. They've already had enough fun for one lifetime.

College football is cyclical. Bama has been up for way too long. Time to come back down to earth. They are in the decline. Will continue. They will start to lose RECRUITS now...

Trust me, I had plenty of fun watching first Georgia game, UT game, Auburn game, LSU game and the playoff win in Norman. I even had a great weekend when OU won in ttown, despite loss.
Im glad Indiana and Ole Miss are having fun too

I'm not confused at all.
Alabama's offensive line under Saban was big huge guys who executed zone/gap blocking schemes.
These are not the type of players DeBoer wants. DeBoer wants athletic offensive lineman who can pull and then execute blocks in space and at the 2nd level.
You can't teach the lineman to be more athletic and faster instead of being 300+. You just have to recruit new guys and try to make do with what you have.
DeBoer is not a pro style offense or even a spread offense guy. He's closer to being an air raid coach, but a more modern version of it.
The fact we made it as far as we did with that line and without a running game says to me they actually did a really good job coaching.
He's had 1 actual recruiting class, and that was last year coming in #4. He did have to deal with transfers leaving after Saban retired and started recruiting in near mid Jan his first year.
So I'm not sure what I have to be confused about. Only 2 regular season losses this year.
As far as I can tell, Alabama is ahead of schedule. It seems many people don't understand coaching changes. Hell, Bill Curry had Alabama at 10 wins and damn near a NC one year, and then Gene Stallings went 7-5 the next year and then won the NC 2 years later.
Same thing happened between Ray Perkins to Bill Curry, drop off, then improvement.
shite seems normal to me. I guess nobody else has been through coaching changes. #1 and #9 playing in a bowl game is the only thing unusual.

So you are comparing a stretch starting in the middle of the all time best historical run ever

To the first two seasons of the new coach. All this inherited a Ferrari stuff is true to some degree, but this board gleefully melted at the 30 + transfers that happened. I have no idea how DeBoer will do long term. There’s definitely some worrying signs, but Bama is 2 wins better than last season, including a playoff win. This offseason will tell a lot.
Let me turn it around on the UGA fans. How are y’all feeling about the clear drop off? Dawgs are still a good team, no doubt, but 0-2 in their last 2 playoff games is a reality. Are there any creeping doubts with Kirby in this new NIL era?

Yep, there is a reason saban quit coaching when NIL arrived. Hard to follow the GOAT of all times paying players.. when everyone gets to do so.

Alabama recruiting hasn't dropped off.
There is a difference between a talented player and an elite player. An elite player is a talented player who developed. Alabama has plenty of talent, what has been lacking is the development of those players. That is where NIL has hurt because players are getting paid now, so they just care about getting paid rather than getting better.
Saban retired because players quit caring about being developed. Looks like he should have started recruiting aged 3 stars who want to get better and get paid after.

Your post is a reasonable one
Question is: does the Alabama administration and fans have the patience to let Deboer install his players? Will he get 4 years to show improvement? Is there enough trust and faith to give him time? With the portal and NIL a lot of fans expect success within 2 years instead of 4-5 like the old days of building a team with depth.
You want to avoid a Nebraska situation where Solich followed Osbourne and had good success and got fired because he wasn’t Osbourne level of success, then Pelini had them consistently winning 9-10 games and got fired. And they’ve been shite since
Most blue blood programs have one legendary coach in their history that put them on the map. Alabama has had two. Those coaches come around very rarely so you cannot expect that level of success to be maintained. Deboer may or may not be the guy, but a SECCG appearance and playoff appearance with a playoff win is not bad for year two if he is installing an entire different system from his predecessor

If DeBoer loses 4-5 games next season he won’t see a rebuilt OL at Bama. The AD will be fired with him.

Traditionally yes. We've only fired 2 coaches in the past 60 years, not counting Mike Price who was fired before coaching a game.
We won 11 games this year.
It would be more likely that DeBoer left because he didn't feel like he could met expectations.

Nebraska screwed themselves by going to the Big10.

I don't think the playoff appearance means much more than being a top10 team, but otherwise yeah I agree. If we can keep being a top10 team year after year, championships will follow. I will never complain about an 11 win season in which we beat both our rivals, and had 3 post season games.

The "our coach just needs more time to get his type of players in the system and Rome wasn't built in a day" phase usually isn't a good place to be in after year 2, especially when the coach inherited Rome.

Sure thing Jan. saban..pay for play before NIL.
Sure , you can buy the #1 recruiting class now, so can everybody else in any given year. Now that everybody gets to do the saban.. including portal. 'Bama falls to being a four loss team.
Coincidence.. I think not.
Likewise, with the portal, one cannot stock the top self five stars like saban did, year after year.... others get to bid on them now too. saban not only led in five stars.. they were the top of the five stars.
saban only did that by paying. Then quit coaching as soon as NIL came along.
Coincidence.. I think not.

Finally, it’s difficult to draw any firm conclusions regarding Alabama’s ability to develop talent considering the average player on the roster was a four-star prospect to begin with.

I've been an Alabama fan for over 50 years, have watched Alabama win 9 national championships and even some of the worst years as well.
I'll let you know when it's time to panic.
At any rate, how do you feel about coaches that have been with a program for nearly 10 years and hasn't won a playoff game in 3 years, going 0-2 over that time? Is that a good place to be?

Did Saban ever suffer a loss as bad as what happened to Bama yesterday?
What was his biggest loss?
What was his biggest loss?

Our coach has already proven he can a national championship and get over the top. Two years in a row. Your coach has lost 7 games away from home in his first 2 seasons. Our coach has lost 6 games away from home in the last 5 years.

Alabama has as many 5 stars and what not as it always has.
You're just a poster boy for the Dunning–Kruger effect.

Wild to think about.
And with NIL and portal, that may have been the sport's last true dynasty. I just don’t see how one team replicates that under current conditions.

So now you want to compare Kirbys’s last five to DeBoer’s first 2. Got it.
Kirby is currently 1-2 vs DeBoer. That is a positive sign. DeBoer also hasn’t lost to AU or LSU yet. The big losses are troubling. As a Bama fan I have no trouble admitting that.
My question was not a comparison question. It was addressing if you are having any creeping doubts with diminishing success. I thought you were wanting a conversation. Were you just trolling? Cool if you were, but your response got defensive real fast.
