I wouldsay it doesn't matter in the meaningless bowl games but if the SEC only beats each other and American conference teams in the playoff it will be a bad look especially after last season.

What do you mean this season?...try this on for size...the SEC hasnt beat a Big 10 team in the playoffs in 3 years including this one.
