Why didn’t Ole Miss let Lane coach playoffs?

Has there been any definitive word on this?

It seems if you want to win, you let him coach. But there could be counter arguments to that (he’s distracted, toxic lockeroom)

I could also see where this may have been used as a final bargaining chip to have him stay.

In my own personal opinion it should have been all or none - this "offensive staff" being allowed to coach BS is frickin weird.

OM fans have been completely honest and vocal that they are happy Kiffin is gone. They claim that they have wanted Golding all along.

Their AD fricked that situation up about as worse as it could have been

Nick Saban once fired him as his OC the week before the national championship because he was too distracted after taking the FAU job.

I’m honestly not sure how much was strategic (poaching, toxic environment, being checked out) vs just hurt feelings. But it’s definitely some blend of those two.

According to the players per Chris Low’s article, they told him to leave.

On3 article

quote:

Linebacker Tyler Banks, who, like Sanders, is also a member of the team’s leadership council, said it was made perfectly clear to Kiffin by the leadership council that if he were indeed going to take the LSU job that he needed to leave the football complex and that the players did not want him to stay on as coach in the playoff.

This is the answer.

We definitely needed another thread on this though

Worried he would leave before the game was over.

Supposedly they were afraid of “tampering”, him recruiting players to follow him to LSU. But then they let multiple assistant coaches who are going to LSU with Lane come back to coach the playoffs.

And now there are rumblings from people in and around the Ole Miss program that they think those assistant coaches they WANTED back for the playoffs are, you guessed it, “tampering” with their players.

Can’t make this shite up

The best chance to win a natty is with Lane Kiffin

Ole Miss winning a natty>>>hurt feelings over him taking a better job

Ole Miss fricked themselves

Most of the team wanted him to. Their AD felt slighted and acted like a prick.

Tampering doesn't have to be in-person. They all have phones.

I know that, you know that, everyone knows that. But that was the main reason Ole Miss gave for not wanting Lane around the program for the playoffs.

This is what’s wild to me. A coach doesn’t have to be physically on campus to recruit personnel.

If anything, OM forcing Kiffin out gave him an axe to grind. Not real smart on their part

The answer from a Google search has not been mentioned here. So can you share what the reason is?
