Can a player who's signed a contract for next year be released?

Assume the new school would be on the hook for some compensation for the period from signing a contract to his portal entry date

Believe Georgia was involved in a similar situation last year

If a kid changes his mind and enters portal after newly signing with that team unless there is a coaching change then he should not get a dime from that school. Assuming of course you are talking about transferring during spring window.

There is no spring window. Just January now.

It would depend on the language of the contract and they all vary.

My guess would be any offensive player with half a brain and a desire to showcase his skills for the next level.
