Moving bowl games to the beginning of the season?

I’ve seen this floated a couple of times recently, most notably by Rick Neuheisel.
Would that involve turning the first game of the season for most of the P5 teams into a bowl game? Or an actual NFL-style preseason?
It’s an interesting thought, especially because it really seems like traditional bowl season is on its last legs. The preseason idea might work, considering the spring A-day game is basically dead now too.

Problem with that is your seniors and early draft players are gone. So they earned the bowl but can’t participate.

Most draft players weren’t going to play anyway. It is an interesting idea. I really like the watching random bowl games during December.

Yea that’s true. Probably most of them depending on the bowl. But it still shorts the seniors on their last game. I doubt that they would entertain going through summer workouts to play one last game in where their eligibility ran till the end of the preseason bowl.
But on the flip side, the Dewey, Cheatham, and Howe National Injury Law Firm Bowl will get more eyeballs as the first game of the season rather than December 26th.

Bowl games for 6-6 and 5-7 teams is DEI football. Auto-bids for conference champs aren't.
