Get rid of conference championship games. Changed needed.

Top 2 from each P4 conference get into playoffs, conference champs get a bye.
Next 8 teams are “wildcards” with games to be played on “Championship weekend” the winners playing first round games against #5-8.

Obviously it's a shame but it's probably better to just kill them. I normally don't miss the game no matter who's in it but as predicted it's mostly meaningless now.

Another great SEC tradition being killed off.

There's only been a championship game since 1992. You talk like it's been happening since the conference was formed.
Like it or not, this is the new era of college football. Without the automatic qualifier bid, they are truly meaningless now.

They aren’t getting rid of conference championships because of money.
I agree with this though. And the top 2 teams of each P4 conference should be based off CFP ranking — not conference w/l record. It would be different if every team played everybody, but no team has the same conference schedule.
Let the top two teams from each conference play in a championship game, with the understanding that your final CFP playoff ranking is based off the regular season.
Winning or losing a conference championship game is not going to move you up or down — effectively, these teams can play their 2s and 3s in this game and give their starters are break if they so choose.
Meanwhile 16 other teams are playing play-in games yesterday, not getting rewarded with a bye.
Expand the playoffs to 24 teams and the top two teams in each P4 conference get first round byes.
Example: yesterday UGA would have been playing Ole Miss in an essentially meaningless (but still profitable SEC Championship.
Alabama would have been playing #21 Houston yesterday in the first round.
UVA would have been playing Miami in the ACC game.
#10 ND and #20 Tulane would have been playing their first round game yesterday.

That’s where the “wildcard weekend” I described comes in..4 play-in games for spots 9-12.

Sec/big needs to go ahead and round up nd. Zona. Zona st. Tt. Utah. Kansas. Wvu. Pitt Louisville. Unc. Nc st. Colorado. vt. Virginia. Clem. Fsu. Miami. Gt. Okie st. Maybe a couple others form a new D1 and build a playoff that suits those schools needs.

This is bad take.
It was a bad take to expand it to 12.
Give me an argument that there are 24 teams that can win the natty. There isn't one.
I'll do you one better. Make the playoffs 8 teams, no byes and no automatic qualifiers.

Way too much money goes into those games. They will never go away.
It is strange Georgia blew Bama out and neither team budged. Why was that game even played?

I’m perfectly ok taking it back to 2 teams and enjoying a bowl season. Just saying if we have to go with an expanded playoff, this would be an option.

that would just give all control of our conference to the B1G committee.
The SECC game is the championship of our southern football culture. I hate the north football and the NFL thing they are just seizing control of everything to do. Its a hostile takeover with intention of seizing complete control of money and power.
Im guessing its run by 99% left leaning elitists.
