The ACC may have gone 6-3 against the SEC last night, but due to their wins all mostly coming by very low margins and the SEC’s wins coming by large point differentials, the SEC benefited in the NET rankings
The 9 ACC teams that played yesterday averaged falling 2.2 spots in the NET rankings this morning.
The 9 SEC teams that played yesterday averaged moving up 0.2 spots in the NET rankings this morning.
The ACC’s six wins were by an average of just 3.8 points per game. Meanwhile the SEC’s three wins were by an average of 20 points per game.
This means that despite losing six of the nine games, the SEC outscored the ACC yesterday 684-647… an average margin of +4.1 points per contest.
Wins and losses are a main component of the NET, but possibly more important is margin of victory, and that helped the SEC yesterday.
There are 7 more games to be played tonight, and the SEC is the Vegas favorite in six of those. If all the Vegas favorites win, the SEC will win the Challenge 9-7.

Also… this has nothing to do with the Challenge, but I did notice that Ole Miss plays St John’s this weekend, and the SEC has a chance to move to 3-0 against St. John’s on the season with a Rebels win.
This stat is crazy… since the beginning of last season, St. John’s is 0-4 against the SEC while simultaneously going 35-4 in all other games.
Their other 4 losses have come by 1, 1, 1, and 2 points each… one of those in Overtime. Their 4 losses to the SEC were by 3 (Georgia last season), 7 (Bama this year), 9 (Arky last season), and 11 (Auburn this year).
The SEC has absolutely dominated St John’s. Let’s hope Ole Miss can keep it going. The SEC has won 6 straight overall, and you have to go back to 2012 to find the last time St John’s beat an SEC team.
