Maybe you aren’t worth it.

Have you ever stopped and thought about how much of this circus is your own doing?
How you ran a good-but-(maybe)-not-great coach out of town midway through the season, and then kicked off an extremely public (and honestly, pretty desperate and pathetic) overture to steal a coach from a team that’s found success in an era of college football where you so far have found little (if any at all)?
And why? Because you “deserve it”? Because “we’re LSU”? Look in the mirror for once, and think about the risk that both you (and Kiffin) are taking on here. It’s undisputed at this point that money is not a factor here - so, if you think that Lane would be fine with being canned after 3-4 years if he doesn’t win a title because he’d be getting some massive buyout, I think you’re mistaken. Because if that happens, his career is done. If he leaves Oxford like this, LSU is the last place that he’ll ever coach. This is a MASSIVE risk for him, and for you too - I think at this point it’s perfectly clear that the state of Louisiana can’t afford two 8-figure buyouts in a 5-year span.
Last point I’ll submit to you is this: If you were really so certain that he’s about to be your next coach, why is it that the second somebody shows a shred of doubt, you all start foaming at the mouth? Why are you so sensitive if you’re so secure in the outcome?
I think it’s far more likely that this backfires on LSU tremendously, and honestly, I hope it does. It wasn’t Lane or Jimmy Sexton or CAA who turned this into a widely-publicized circus: it was you. If there’s real justice in this world, you’ll pay for this with years - and hopefully, decades - of mediocrity and disappointment.
Good luck today. You’ll need as much of it as you can afford (which, by my count, isn’t much).
