Has losses to WF and NCSt but NCSt loss doesn’t count in conference standings? Bizarre approach

I remember seeing something about how some ACC teams' games against fellow ACC teams are not considered conference games. Maybe a schedule fix (due to not being able to get a game scheduled in time or something weird like that).

ACC schedule model changes made them schedule each other on their own to preserve the rivalry I didn’t know they had

A GPT explanation:

quote:

Some ACC teams play each other in games that do not count as conference games. It happens when the ACC needs to fix a schedule gap or handle a late change. When they do that, the game is treated like a non-conference matchup, even though both teams are from the ACC.

So for Virginia:

• They lost to Wake Forest and NC State.
• The Wake Forest loss counts.
• The NC State loss does not count because that matchup was labeled a “non-conference game” on the schedule.

It looks strange, but it is a real ACC thing they have done for years when schedules don’t line up.

This line means the ACC’s new scheduling model (the one with fewer divisions and rotating opponents) did not guarantee certain matchups every year. When that happened, some schools were told they could schedule each other outside the ACC schedule if they wanted to keep a rivalry going.

So if two ACC teams cared about keeping a series alive, they could:

• Schedule each other as “non-conference”
• Even though they are both in the ACC
• And the game would not count toward ACC standings

People joke about it because many of these “rivalries” are not real rivalries, so it looks odd.

Didn't they have that setup last year also or maybe the year before that.

Maybe it screws Miami though...lol...

Then again, GPT could just be co-signing my bs which it often does
