Why on earth did Beamer hire Mike Shula

His offensive playcalling at Alabama was legendary for being boring and predictable. Crazy to think that one hire may be his unraveling.

Nepotism breeds nepotism
Honestly he was already on staff and it was the easy, lazy thing to do. He sucks at hiring coordinators, outside of Clayton White

Spitballing here. He's a shitty coach that no one would even know about if it weren't for his Daddy?

Drugs if I had to guess. He was heavily medicated

He spent 7 years in the NFL as an offensive coordinator after he was fired from Alabama. 10 seasons in the NFL as a QB coach.
On paper, it was an excellent hire, IMO.

The style of QB we have went against what he wanted to do, IMO. Couldn't recreate the Cam Newton magic

He was a former Alabama player who was hired in the middle of April because no other coaches were available.
He had 0 HC experience when hired by Alabama. He'd been an NFL coordinator, QB coach and so forth prior to being hired by Alabama. If not for the circumstances Alabama was in after firing Price, he would have never been a HC.
He's always been a position coach or a coordinator otherwise. And he has about 35 years experience coaching.
But he's old school. Thinks a team should be able to get 2 yards up the middle at anytime, etc. The kind of football I grew up playing.

I was talking about Beamer who the question was about. I don't blame Shula for taking the job.

Oh my bad. I thought you meant Shula since his dad is an NFL legend.
People hoped he would be like his dad when Alabama hired him.

Because he'd worked with Cam in the NFL. Though he could transfer that knowledge to Sellers.

Because he’s a special teams coordinator pretending to be a head coach.

SEC is a good ole boy network.
How else do guys like Napier, Muschamp, McElwain, Shula, Dooley, etc get as far as they do.
Some should've remained coordinators and some never did well as as coordinator but still get HC jobs.
