Teams should be able to finish out their season + postseason without all this BS. With the current calendar setup, what's the incentive for fans of mid-level programs to stay loyal? Because when they finally do have that magical 11 or 12 win season, someone comes and tries to take their coach before the postseason. And whether he leaves or not, it's a huge distraction. This whole thing is absurd.
As an LSU fan I want Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin to finish their season. If he wants to listen to offers or sign an extension with Ole Miss or do neither and stay under his current deal, he should be given until Ole Miss is no longer in the playoffs or wins a natty to do that.

They've got to do something or it will badly hurt the sport. I don't think they considered this aspect when they expanded the CFP to 12 teams.

National Signing Day is in a month and the portal opens 2 weeks after that.
Unless a coach wants to skip a signing class and get a late start in the portal, what other option is there?

Problems:
Signing day is in early December and the only portal window is in early January.
A coach needs to be able to build his new team, and players at the old team should know who their next coach is going to be.

Nice post and I agree. Not LSUs fault, not Gators fault. Just got some leakers somewhere or Sexton leaked it for leverage.

Players can leave anytime and so can coaches. I don’t love it, but it’s all business nowadays with zero loyalty.
