So the only ones with an advantage were Mizzou and Oklahoma, which beat Bama at Bama.

It's stacking the deck against Bama but it's been this way for years. The schedule always puts Bama at a disadvantage with byes.

Because the conferences decide the open dates and the teams put in requests to have an open game before Alabama.

No, our 2 byes only offset other teams byes.
We had no byes before a team that did. Of course we never do, so I don't really think much of it.
