Germie and Cuevas have been our best players offensively lately.

Both from Washington.

When DeBoer gets his players i think we play a lot better.

His style just requires a different type of kid.

When he gets his players and unveils the whole playbook, we'll be cooking with grease in Tuscaloosa. Believe it!

I agree about germie and cuevas, they have been fantastic.. I'm not so sure about him getting his players. It wasn't like the cupboard was bare and now you have the portal. The ol play is inexcusable and has been bad since deboer has been here. It's the root of most of the offensive issues.

Our OL was trash Saban's last few years too. The last good one we've had was 2020. Too many recruiting misevaluations. It's on DeBoer for not being more aggressive with the portal though. If guys don't fit what you want it's not your obligation to make it work. Especially in this era when players change programs 3 and 4 times in their careers.

It’s been bad since 2021. That 2021 OL outside somehow the SECCG were bad at pass blocking and average at best run blockers

This is an understatement. We love to remember that 2012 OL and we had a few good ones after. But we haven't had "great OL units" for quite a bit. Our weapons or stellar QB play (Tua, Mac, Bryce) masked a lot of problems up front.

So did having NFL caliber running backs.

Yep. We had a long run of elite skill players. We need more O linemen with Landon Dickerson mentality.

You are 100% correct about the portal but Saban, in his last season, took a team that had the added luxury of Downs, Amos, Key, Latham, Arnold, Burton, Kool-Aid, etc. and was blown out at home by Texas and was one play away from losing to three awful teams. Let's not forget the South Florida shitshow either. That's why I'm willing to give Deboer more time as people over estimated our talent level.

We're not untalented, I think we have a top 10 roster to be quite honest. But there are holes in the roster that didn't exist for most of Saban's tenure. And yes, this was even true in the 2020s for Saban. We were far diminished on the LOS because we couldn't stash future NFL players as backup for 2-3 years.

I can think of 3-4 at O line and running back. Just got to hope Jam gets over his demons and quits tap dancing in the backfield.

Everybody has roster gaps in this era. Even the top teams. Ohio State has a guard problem and can't really run the ball like they want, too. It's just that they're playing nobodies most weeks, so its not getting exposed like our weaknesses. Texas has no money issues but their OL seems a bit bad this year. Texas A&M is weak along the secondary. Georgia doesn't really have a great individual edge rusher.

In Georgia's case, their great individual edge rusher that'd allow them to play coverage and get pressure without blitzing is a star player on Mizzou. They targeted the right guy but couldn't keep him. Not even a money problem, an immediate playing time problem.

Between the money and the transferring, every top team is going to have their problems and they're going to be far more dramatic than pre-NIL+unlimited transfers.

Yep, the days of depth and elite play at every position are in the past.
