Lost in all the news, our tackling....

Went back and watched the Florida game. Our tackling was abysmal. Anyone else notice? If I didn't know better you would never get me to believe the same HC of the 17, 21,22,23 teams was the same guy. It seems it first started to slide last year, but that Florida game, oooof

Mixture of being out of position and poor fundamentals. Modern CF doesn't allow for bloody physical practices and depth doesn't either.
I hate it

Kirby’s defense relies on the LBs to make the bulk of the tackles, especially the MLB. Our current one is a terrible tackler. It all breaks down from there.

Kirby is aware of this and made it a point of emphasis during the BYE

While the recruiting rankings of our defensive players suggests a highly talented group, I think most of them were overrated.
Sure tackling is all about anticipation, technique and quickness to move into position to make the tackle.
This defense simply doesn't look as powerful or quick on the DL and our defensive backfield doesn't look as fast and lacks the high level of football IQ of Kirby's previous defenses.
I would like to think that it's still a youth factor but we're at the end of the season now and it's time to play smarter.

I thought our tackling was solid on Saturday and we rallied and wrapped up, but it's all subjective I guess.Jadan Baugh only got loose once and held him in check. The Lagway run was on a draw where we forgot to cover the middle of the field. The 40 yard pass was all in the air. CJ Allen was PFF's highest graded linebacker in the country this week. Gave Brooks Austin a boner in his Film Guy breakdown.
We were definitely better in 2021 and 2022, but we also missed tackles and had three-and-outs back then too. It's like you're chasing football perfection and have some misplaced nostalgia and you'll be.miserable about Georgia football until we get back to a time that never really existed.

Ellis had a big tackle on Lagway on the 3rd and short non-fumble play.
Really outside of a couple of plays, and letting the WR get wide open late, the defense had a solid game.

Demello Jones was mixing it up too.
It was an encouraging game from a tackling standpoint, I thought.

I've posted this a hundred times and getting tired of repeating myself.
Kirby specifically said in multiple pre-season press conferences that he changed the philosophy of the bloody physical practices because of injuries. Predictably, you end up with a healthier, but softer team. It's a balance.
Secondly, we don't have "that guy" or multiple "that guys" on defense like we've had in the past. Solid high-quality players, but nobody on any lists for any awards. Everybody is playing at a level 7, nobody is playing at a level 9 or 10 on defense.
I need to cut and paste this into a word doc so I can repeat it 40 more times this season without having to type it all out.

Seems like the balance may have tipped too far in favor of safety. Didn't recruits used to say that one of the big things they liked about Georgia was how hard the hitting in practices was? So maybe putting some more of that back in would be good. Only one way to find out, I suppose.

Yeah we all know that but by all means, let’s everyone acknowledge DRs martyrdom over the matter.

UF was the best game of his career imo and we lose with anybody else back there. CJ Allen is starting to look like Roquan , Nakobe, and Jalen did...a Butkus winner

We are really suffering on the edges at outside linebacker.

It definitely seems that way. Our defense is a shell of what it was up till 22-23.

CJ is definitely playing faster than he was early in the season. I keep waiting of others to catch up.

A few weeks ago you brought us a thread about how our offensive line sucks.
We are in the middle of a really exciting season, and your whole schtick is to convince us that we shouldn't be enjoying this season or have any joy because we're not as good as we were in 2021 and 2022.
After a while it becomes a buzzkill. I wish there was an Ingore button.

Not my purpose at all, but I do find it amusing my every post torments you.

You dooooo know normal people can simply choose to ignore things that they dislike without a "button." It's only been in practice since the dawn of humanity.

This was the first game I can recall where CJ resembled Roquan. He was finally matching lateral speed with the skill players, not getting washed out in traffic, and making tackles at or behind the line of scrimmage. It was beautiful.

I really think it boils down to defensive scheme, or lack thereof, and Schumann.
