Once had Kirby freakin Smart come in for an interview, and didn’t choose him.

Yeah. It’s not worth beating yourself up over the what ifs. Auburn will be back in some form or fashion. And not in the dumps forever

The story goes that the PTB at Auburn didn't want him to stay on at Bama as they were on their way to the playoff. Didn't think it would be a good look for the Auburn HC to be coaching for a title at Bama.
I get it...the optics and all. But put your pride aside and get the best guy. Oh well, it is what it is.
ETA: BCS championship game, not playoffs. It was December 2012.

Yeah that's why I wouldn't waste time wondering what might have been. As soon as the UGA job became vacant, he would have straight up pulled a smash and dash on Auburn (or almost any program for that matter).
