Every fanbase grossly overestimates the perception of their program...none worse than LSU.
I think most would call both positions top tier and it would be a coin toss as to which offered the most opportunity for success.

The population of the state of Florida is over 23 million while Louisiana is under 5. Sure, there are lots of old people in Florida but there is a much larger recruiting base in a state of that size.
Just a quick AI search indicates there are around 180 players in the NFL from Florida and around 60 from Louisiana. The 3:1 ratio on talent and the number of P5 programs makes that a push.

If you could move LSU out of the projects of Red Stick you might have a point.

Statistically speaking, a coach in the state of Florida would never have to leave Florida to recruit. Plus the fact that IMG brings in the best from the nation to play in Florida. PLUS all the benefits of having Disney and Universal Studios at your side. It's a football coaching wet dream

That and if I were a parent advising my student athlete, safety/security would be at the top the list in selection criteria.
I asked Copilot to compare crime stats between Gainesville, FL and Baton Rouge, LA:
======================================================
Baton Rouge has significantly higher crime rates and costs than Gainesville. Gainesville is safer overall, with lower per capita crime and economic impact.
Here’s a detailed comparison of crime statistics between Gainesville, FL and Baton Rouge, LA for 2025:
?? Overall Crime Rate
- Gainesville, FL: 16.77 crimes per 1,000 residents
- Baton Rouge, LA: 37.05 crimes per 1,000 residents
?? Violent Crime
- Gainesville:
- Violent crime rate: 427.5 per 100,000 residents
- Murder rate: 7 per year
- Assaults: 756 per 100,000 residents
- Baton Rouge:
- Violent crime rate: 1,028 per 100,000 residents
- Murder rate: 29 per 100,000 residents (7× national average)

Good QBs and OLs get coaches job offers and extensions.
Bad QBs and OLs get coaches fired.
In modern CFB if you don’t have a QB and an OL you’re in big trouble.

Some of you are smoking crack. LSU is a huge program that almost any coach would take the phonecall for. LSU is going to be a much faster turnaround than Florida. Florida looks like a dysfunctional family compared to LSU. Hell, the governor of Louisiana stepped in to help them out. Talk about complete buy-in from everyone in Louisiana, they have it.

That's because LSU doesn't even have a University President in place.
Sure, you take the call if for no other reason to leverage the possibility for more money elsewhere. But that doesn't mean other opportunities are just as good if not better.

They do that have a university president currently. And if its Kiffin he is bringing his roster with him wherever he goes.
Also might want to remember that Florida's AD is a State grad. If he only had mild morale ambivalance when he poached Mullen he will snatch Freshwater with gleeful exuberance.

If I were a head coach I would much rather step into UF as an organization vs LSU right now.
But I do think LSU's ceiling is a bit higher.

Gainesville is a "make sure your car is locked at night" town.
