We have a new #1 - and I also believe this is the first time in SECR history.

Thank you all for the participation. We receive several hundred votes each week.

Vanderbilt
Miss State
LSU
Auburn
South Carolina
Florida
Arkansas
Kentucky

Bama answered the bell on the road at Georgia with one of, if not the best full 60 minute performances of the DeBoer era. Revenge game vs. a dangerous Vanderbilt team is next. Pavia, who elicits a similar response from Bama fans as Hunter Renfrow did at Clemson (I’m pretty sure they served together in ‘Nam), is an absolute dog who knows how to win. Vanderbilt’s excellent rushing attack will prove to be another challenge for Bama’s defense that has struggled to play soundly against the run this season.

Ole Miss answered the bell and won a penalty-filled game against LSU. Trinidad Chambliss put up 385 yards and 2 TDs, and the defense played its best game of the season. Now the Rebs get a bye week before traveling to Athens for a battle of top 15 teams.

Pittman era finally over. About two years too late.

LSU's offense is just offensive. Brian Kelly had a championship offense and now he has what possibly could be a championship defense. This is what we get for $95M? How much do we have to pay to.have a good defense and a good offense at the same time?

These refs were absolute trash. Vandy played sloppily. Strange times for the Dores when scoring 55 points and winning by 20 is disappointing.

Same as it ever was, Bana is Kirby’s kryptonite — a later Luke we SHOULD win and blow it at the end; this one is on Kirby

We can’t do a damn thing on offense. QB has the yips and OL couldn’t block against air.

This game did not give us any answers as to what our team is. Defensively, we played exceptionally, but we were also lucky not to get burned by wide-open receivers. Offensively, we moved the ball well, but we kept holding ourselves back with penalties. We have to get that cleaned up or we’ll finish 8-4. I’m still optimistic about the offense and wary of the defense. Hopefully, we can put it all together against State, but I expect coming out with a win will be a tall task against a hungry and talented State team.

[The comment has been flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct. 15 yard penalty and repeat comment attempt next week]

Our offense is putrid and Nuss is a shell of his former self. Opponents don’t fear the run at all and can control the TOP

I said I would know about Bama after UGA. What I saw was a team without 5 of their two deep on the DL go into Sanford against an insane environment and behind an All-American level QB find a way to win. There are still questions against the run. There are still questions as to whether we can run the ball. But they sure as hell answered any questions about their heart and the quality of the offensive coaching scheme which was as good a first half gameplan as I've seen schematically in the last 20 years.

Diego Pavia had a very good showing. 6 total TD’s. Team is still undefeated going into the Bama game. Vandy will make the playoffs and Pavia will win the Heisman.

Impressive that having won 31 of last 34 at home that Ole Miss isn’t a tough place to play. Kidding totally outcoached Kelly and overcame 2 turnovers and penalties to put us in a good spot for playoffs but none of the 5 remaining conference games will be easy. Defense is getting better and offense is getting more versatile.

Bye week, but by all accounts, Dr. Steven Shin performed a successful surgery. Mateer should return sometime between the Texas game and "never again as long as we live."

We stomped some Cajun nutsacks in. Next we have a bye, so it’s an extra week of celebrating the win against those dirty, smelly, coonass, corn dogs.

Team stood up. OL protected Ty. The DL despite losing nearly preseason starter did enough to win against a tough UGA team. And Ty Simpson had a Heisman first half with the offensive gameplan the best I’ve seen since the 2020 NC game. Injuries and run defense will be a major concern going into the Vandy game but I was incredibly proud of what they did this week.

How does the expert panel justify OU over A&M? They have one common opponent and A&M looked a lot better than OU Vs Auburn.

OU doesn't have a qb anymore either . I think they need to drop ... several spots

This is why I was trying to ask if this is a “who would win this week” rank or “who has the best resume” ranking.

Because OU has one of the best resumes in the country but without Mateer there are a lot of teams I would pick over them right now.

It’s a power ranking.

What does that mean to you?

As in how do you define “power ranking”?

A power ranking is a system for rating teams or individuals, not just by current standings, but by their overall strength, skill, or recent performance, often incorporating subjective analysis and various metrics beyond wins and losses, such as margin of victory, strength of schedule, or recent trends. These rankings provide a more contextualized view of a team's or player's capabilities within a league or competition.

It all hinges on the credibility of a Chipotle conversation at this point. Will the tortilla presser sign something in front of a notary guaranteeing Mateer's return by OU-Texas?

Of course Mateer is a big piece of the offense, but it's not like they should revert to last year's level without him.

Hawkins will have another year under his belt, but more importantly, an offensive line that's played together two weeks in a row (or more!) and actual scholarship receivers to throw to. That kinda shite does wonders for offensiveness.

And...AND there are supposed to be some other big-name starters returning this week or next. Let's see if they can squeak one out against Kent State before rushing to judgement.

That’s some vague right brained stuff right there haha.

I won’t get nerdy on you, but that vague arse description would get someone fired in an analytics role.

Conference is unbelievably wide open when there’s 10 teams between Ole Miss at the top and LSU outside the top 10. If Nuss was half of what he was last season then LSU maybe pulls that one out

Based on what? OU even with Mateer is 29th in efficiency offense according to FPI.

29th is not CFP level even with your elite defense, but its enough to keep you in those elite games just like we saw with Texas - Ohio State a few weeks back.

With him you had made it up to 29th in adjusted passing YPA while last year you were one of the worst in P4.

Without him you have no run game (92nd in adjusted YPC with him), no evidence Hawkins can throw the ball in a consistent way and will have to rely on winning games with your defense.

With Mateer OU is a borderline CFP team.

Without Mateer you are a really good team who can ugly up and win a game against elite teams occasionally but not consistently enough to actually be elite.

The panel has a a guideline we more or less follow that we review each season that really determines what our weights are when voting.

The public can interpret "power rankings" how they see fit, and with several hundred submissions, and gives a pretty solid average.

You cannot really apply true analytics to the public as the distribution of voters is biased (heavily LSU and Alabama), and as you can imagine, is greatly influenced by emotion.

Last point - Look at the disaster of the AP voting this year. That is not a "power ranking" and they are wildly inconsistent and all over the place. It is very subjective.

Oh I agree 100% and think the CFP is just as bad.

Im not disagreeing with anything Ive seen from the panel, I just wanted to make sure I knew what I was trying to evaluate.

With specific guidelines it could at least take away what you point to which is the emotional voting of majority fanbases (LSU is #1 in the country one week and everyone should be fired the next... no, they're a really good team with some flaws who had a great resume going into Ole Miss but who I would predict to lose to a number of top 10 teams right now).

Power Ranking Vandy that high is a joke. I like the pimp and all but y'all getting carried away.

Based on the obvious that I already spelled out, the main thing being that the whole receiver room and half the O-line aren't missing at any given time like last year.

Last season was pretty awful. The offense was completely lost, with a successful scoring drive almost seeming like a miracle. Defense largely kept OU in the games in which they were competitive.

This defense is better than last year, and the offense at least can move the ball without turning it over nearly as much.

Even if Hawkins hasn't improved at all, he's still better than Arnold was last season and now has a hell of a lot more options on any given down. I can't imagine anyone in their right mind thinking Oklahoma would revert to last year's level of awfulness. Even without Mateer, it would take a lot of injuries or some other complete collapse.
