As usual, I had to “watch” via X posts, but it sounds like we controlled the game and the only reason is wasn’t a blowout was because we kept shooting ourselves in the head. Is that accurate?

I’m dying to know what happened to keep our score so low. I couldn’t watch the game at all

We had a shite ton of penalties, like 13 for 119 yards or something. And Marcel’s pass deep in Auburn territory on 3rd and 1 was bobbled by Bussey and taken back to our 2. Also, Bond missed two FGs.

So, realistically, the score could’ve been 29-3.

Pretty much sums it up. Every big play was called back for something, just couldn’t find any momentum. Those missed FGs were so costly cause it would’ve made it less stressful down the stretch, and just dumb play calling throwing that screen when you’ve been running the ball effectively. So you’re spot on with your summary

We did everything possible to lose the game and if Auburn had even a semi competent offense we probably would have.

Reed was over throwing every one, our OL had their worst game by far with penalties and allowing 4 sacks. Bond did miss two FG’s but they were both 50+ because penalties drove us out of closer FG range.

Also, you got to give Auburn’s defense credit. If we weren’t kicking ourselves with penalties, they were stopping us on 3rd down.

Marcel only had one TD pass and it was to Craver but it was called back by an illegal receiver call on our OLine.

The interception was on a screen pass that was over Bussey’s head and tipped to an Auburn player.

The game was very choppy throughout. Not much consistent positive flow after the first drive.

Lot's of penalties that helped kill drives. Two sure TDs left on the board one via penalty (illegal man downfield) and one via overthrow. Reed still sails balls on long passes but Elko believes that's just more Reed getting too excited at seeing the play than an actual mechanics issue. Reed going over the middle and passing on the run is still excellent though. The offensive line was a bit overwhelmed at times on passing downs. However, the run game did pretty well against what was supposed to be a solid run defense. A lot of that was Moss carrying the pile though Owens has a pretty big run too.

Defense did very well for the most part though it was also aided a few times by Auburn penalties. Defense left two picks on the field. There were a few times we could have been badly burned w/a big play but Auburn either self destructed or their QB missed the read. Blanking them on 3rd was great though. Impressive how they kept AU's WRs in check after being abused last year.

Bond missed two FGs but they were both from 50 so it's not like he was missing gimmies. Our punt protection scares me. I feel like we are going to have al least one more punt blocked this year if they don't get their blocking worked out.

I thought play calling was solid for the most part. I get the logic for what they did on the 4th quarter pick on 3rd and 1 right near the red zone but even if the pass had been on target and caught it looked like that play was going to get blown up for a loss. Moss had been nicked up a couple times so maybe they wanted to give him a break but I would have just kept running the ball at that point. Hell of a play for Craver to run it down and stop it from being a TD though and that kind of effort can't be coached.

Overall - B

Offense - C-
Defense - A
Special teams - C

If you told me before the game two of three units would play poorly I'd have guessed we lost. But we didn't which is great. If they can clean up the mental mistakes it's likely a big win. Elko now moves to 4-2 in one scores games and 10-0 when leading at the half as A&M's HC.

I've asked the same thing in the past. Somone downvotes all of RC's posts. I'm guessing it traces back to when he posted all the L gifs. It was pretty funny when he started, but someone seems to be holding a grudge. Maybe it's something else, but whatever the reason, the downvoter is pretty persistent.

Yeah. A&M was clearly the better team and it shouldn’t have been that close.

Impressed with the A&M Running game against a good defense that usually stops the run well.

I heard that Auburn had the best run D in the SEC before that game.

Dude, 3rd and 1 in Auburn territory, and Klein doesn’t feed Moss? That’s the kind of thing that makes me think he might be holding us back just a little.

Correct, I believe they had allowed 233 rush yards total all season, and allowed 233 to us. If the graphic was fake consider me fooled

Was a horrible play call. Especially considering Bussey is newer to the position and does not have the same hands that KC has.

I understand that he was coaching to score and to win. But Auburn had zero momentum up to that point. A FG probably puts the game out of reach there.

So I expect Klein to learn from it. And if he wants to give Moss a break, then feed one of the 3 other RBs.

I don’t believe Elko addressed it today. I’m hoping it’s one where down the road they make the decision to die on the hill of handing the ball to Moss and taking their chances with him. As they should

They did in the post game press conference. Elko’s response was pretty much “yeah we thought he’d be open.”

I think this is one of those hindsight is 20/20 things - it works as expected no one bats an eye. But we try and run it 4 times on 1st and goal and get stuffed and everyone’s wondering why we didn’t open the playbook up.

I dont hate the call, they were defending run. Snap was high which delayed marcel and caused him to be high. Bussey still should have caught it but it happens.

I would have preferred a run call, but if 3 things don't go wrong in 2.5 seconds there its probably 7 for that drive.
